Can we all just go back to work now? (M855 ban news)

FYI, This was posted to Senator Richard Burr's (R-NC) FB timeline so it's not just made up.

I knew all along nothing would happen. I don't get into believing all of the hype when stuff like this happens, just like the "AWB".

What I saw said it was still out for further review, but I do hope this is the end of the nonsense.

I hate to be the Grinch who stole Christmas, but the "nonsense" is not at an end, and likely never will be at an end. Bans on small revolvers ("Saturday Night Specials"), large pistols ("Assault pistols"), hunting rifles ("Sniper rifles"), short barreled shotguns ("sawed-off shotguns"), semi-automatic shotguns and rifles ("Assault weapons"), noise suppression mufflers to protect hearing and to prevent noise pollution ("Assassins' silencers"), etc., etc. have been advocated for during my life, and proposals will likely continue ad infinitum.

The crazy thing is that people are so fickle they are willing to deep six a vital and important constitutional right every time some nut case does something crazy, usually in a zone where possession of self-defense weapons are outlawed, and many people wring their hands wondering why the nut job didn't honor the "gun free zone" like everyone else did.

Just how it is better to not be able to defend yourself when you need to do so is better than being able to defend yourself but not needing to do so is a mystery to me. And I still have not heard a convincing explanation. Nor is it likely that one is forthcoming.

Why anyone would seriously think that a nut who will not pay attention to a law against murder will pay attention to a law about not carrying the means of commission of that murder into a victim rich environment (read "gun free zone") has never been adequately explained to me.

It is as if we live in this politically correct imbecilic age where logic and reasoning and speaking the truth just got off the train at the previous stop, and a great many have just given up attempting rational thought.

Thus, I predict there will be more nonsense. Let us hope there will be more victories on our side.

It's not a win yet. The ATF announcement stated they were holding off going forward until citizens have time to comment. Wonder if there will be a large liberal push to voice support for the ban, which the ATF could use as justification to continue the ban.

Well is the panic over now? Let us see if we all can get back to some kind normalcy until the government comes up with another gun control skim. :)

The nonsense I was referring to was the empty shelves, panic buying, inflated prices on ALL .223/5.56 ammo since the first mention of the green tip ban. The fight for our 2nd amendment rights will never be over

There is never an end. BATF is using terms as "temporarily" and "at this time". Those are bureaucratic weasel words designed to throw you off your guard until they can slap you again when you least expect it.

Remember the GCA of 1968 was supposed to make American safe, as was the AWB of 1994, as was the....................

This is really the only point that matters. It is totally pointless to use logic to try and convince those that criminals will never obey the law, etc...the only understanding that's needed is that they don't like guns. ......There are two kinds of people in this world. Those who believe in freedom, and those who believe in Govt. The govt lovers are the enemy and total defeat is the only solution.

You must be a young feller. That "AWB" lasted 1994-2004. I remember $150 Glock mags. I "surrendered" my FFL a year into that mess but fortunately bought every double column 9mm and magazine I could find in Fall of '94. Never put dishonest, vile, self serving, anti freedom action beyond any politician. Just when you think they can't possibly go lower, they open a trap door in the floor. This latest scam is mild by comparison but dangerous by intent. Joe

Like others have stated, it is not the end. even if they do give up on this angle, which I doubt, they will try something else. I just saw the other day that some legislature reintroduced firearms registration. More than likely, it will never get out of committee but it won't stop them from trying. Come "hell or high water", they will disarm us some way or another. At least they will try.

"Go back to work now" but I would advise against going back to sleep.

As a Sgt. I worked for always said, "everything's temporary." And the decision not to ban this or that form of ammo may indeed be merely temporary as the mood swings and the attention varies.

If the ATF were serious about doing something to reduce homicides and violent criminals, they should actively go after the felons who are caught with firearms rather than letting the courts plea bargain away the mandatory sentences for the laws the felons are breaking. If they are behind bars in prison, they won't be committing more crimes. How about starting in Chicago?

Totally agreed...(unfortunately). Yet I'll never understand why the Constitution and BoR do not have the final word in this deal...seems real simple to a real simple guy.

What is a good price to start pickinh up the m885 when it drops?

1934, 1968, 1986, 1994-2014...look at all the common sense laws. It's all ridiculous. If people were paying attention we'd still have some freedom.

"Gun Free Zones" especially tick me off. How ludicrous.

The "antis" as I'll call them love these self propagating situations. Unarm everyone but the thugs, then put out constant propaganda of what thugs and crazies are doing with guns to pass ever more restrictions.

"Gun Control" is the biggest farce perhaps in our nation's history. Millions of people have been duped in believing that giving up their rights is best for the whole. It's good for somebody, but that's not us. It's good for a swelling government to have more control and influence.

As others mentioned, it never ends. At least as of late some folks are coming to their senses and we are gaining numbers.

The ban on Chinese ammo and imports, arbitrary regulations on "non-sporting" firearms imports of all kinds, the refusal to import US made surplus firearms of all types, the recent 7n6 ammo ban and other never ending regulations and restrictions means it's s never ending battle.

Complacency lost the firearms community too much already.

As far as the ATF goes they're still calling bracing an AR pistol making an illegal SBR (which has severe penalties), and they are also modifying the framework to make those submitting gun trusts for NFA items require a Chief LEO sign off. NFA trusts became popular due to many Chief LEO's going beyond their position and de facto banning NFA items in their respective counties by not signing off, instead if doing their job which is ensuring the person is eligible (IE not a felon, deemed mentally defective, a spouse beater, or a drug addict).

I'm off on a tangent now, but if you think this stuff is over it is far from.

The popular media shows anti gun propaganda on any story involving our industry. Ball ammo becomes "armor piercing assault ammunition" a rifle is an "assault weapon" and police and public safety is at stake nation wide. While we won this one for now I don't believe we have the upper hand.

It saddens me hearing fellow gun owners say, "we don't need armor piercing ammo anyway."

<snip> It saddens me hearing fellow gun owners say, "we don't need armor piercing ammo anyway." <Endsnip>

This will probably piss some people off but my attitude is very simple. If I can be shot with it or killed with it, I ought to at least be able to have a copy of it to give me a fighting chance, and I don't care if it's another civilian, civilian law enforcement, the military or an enemy combatant shooting at me. I feel exactly the same way regardless.

Should I be able to own a tank. <expletive> Yea. And I shouldn't have to have anybody's permission to buy one either since the person coming after me with one already has his.

Some people, liberals, believe that anyone with a gun is a potential assailant. When seconds count, the police are just minutes away! I read that somewhere and thought yeah. Don't get me wrong, the policemen I've known personally, and all the other officers who daily put their lives on the line for our safety, are heroes IMO. When everyone else is running away they run towards the danger, like firemen and EMTs to name a few. The simply fact that so few are responsible for so many and so much territory, dictates that an officer is not always seconds away! To all the Civil Servants and Military Members, who daily protect our way of life, I say thanks for your service!

This makes me laugh, saw a guy buying thousands of rounds of 556 at Walmart just after the first announcement (for resale). Bet he thought the was a genius until today.
