I am looking to have some machining done on my slide later this month. As part of that I am having it cerakoted. But to tie the slide to the gun I was thinking of having the back strap also cerakoted. The coater has not done it before and not sure if it is the same material as the frame, wish he had not had problems with.

So, has anyone coated the back strap before? Any issues? Pics?

Thanks!

I have not had it done but here's a quote directly from Cerakote's FAQ -
Cerakote is a ceramic based finish that can be applied to metals, plastics, polymers and wood.
So it should be fine.

Just thinking out loud here...

Cerakote is a ceramic based finish. That tells me that it's not all that flexible. Don't you think it will crack if used on the back strap?

Plus, I don't think it's necessary. The color will match what is already on the slide.

I painted my backstrap with Krylon Fusion spray paint in an olive color. The only prep work I did was cleaned it with alcohol prior to spraying and it was dry within 15 mins. I paid around $7 for the can.

Thanks all for the replies.

Rastoff - slide is getting refinished in a OD or Burnt Bronze color and thinking the back strap would look good matching it. I think the back strap is made of the same stuff the frame is so not squishy or flexible.

Worst comes to worse I just get a new backstrap, maybe even one from an earlier posting.

Well, that makes sense. I don't know why, but I was thinking black for the color.

The back strap is definitely more flexible than the frame. Just take it off and you'll see what I mean. Even so, they say it can be done so, why not? If it's not too expensive to include the back strap, do it. Then the rest of us can benefit from your experience and maybe follow in your footsteps.

Looks great and thanks for replying!

I look forward to having the work done the end of the month now with little fear of having the back strap coated now.

I will post up the outcome once it is all done!
