Can't buy ammo in CT anymore....

Interesting that in 1986 NY had more gun rights than many states in the south, but since surpassed.

Right. Used to be that in Tennessee you would have to get permission from the Sherrif to get a handgun and waiting period (before my time here). It was only a few years ago that we could not have a loaded long gun in a vehicle. Now we can ride around with loaded machine guns. We have since passed pro-gun laws regarding carry in bars and parking lots and a host of other things. Still have a long ways to go.... never ending fight. Some people think about the 'good old days' of gun freedoms. That's not always the case.

Think of the people that have fought and died for your freedom. By comparison it seems a small effort to simply move. Va could use you to help compensate for the socialist libs that have moved to northern Va. We need help before we get as bad as New York/etc.
WHEN IS ENOUGH ENOUGH?
Virginia better right the ship while they can. They're off my list of states to retire to.

I wonder if Colt and S&W are being courted by other states? When will Magpul start it's relocation?

My sympathies :( Texas is the goal for the anti's, that's why they(the anti's) fight voter ID laws.

They have already "taken" Harris and Travis Counties--lost for good. That's Austin and Houston.

Im beginning to feel like the Alamo is surrounded and under attack again==and not by Santa Anna this time.

What's a firearm license:confused:

I'm not sure either but it sounds something like a drivers license for guns. Imagine, some folks even need them to purchase ammo. I mentioned this to several of my (gun) friends and they laughed at me, telling me to save that story for April Fools Day.

When I try to explain the inscrutable gun laws of Mass. to people from the south, they think I'm making it up.

"You need a license to possess empty shell casings or powder?"

"Yes."

"That's a good one, tell me another!"

If only I were kidding. The laws here are not intended to do anything but deter law abiding citizens from possessing firearms.

Gary, I was serious when mentioning my friends and their reaction. They, and I until recently, didn't realize how lucky we are. We have a literal handful of legislatures trying each year to adopt similar laws, all with the same result. People say "what's the matter with a few restrictions?", not understanding the real objective is to chip away at gun rights until they are all gone. The "slippery slope" is real, as you know.

I agree completely. People from other parts of the country that don't have the confiscatory laws that we do, don't understand the issue. The people of CO found that out the hard way. At least they were able to fight back and get some of the people who voted for those laws out of office.

MA is hopeless and will be for the rest of my lifetime at the least. My wife and I have talked about moving, and not just for the gun laws. We like the weather in the south more, as well as the people. It's really a matter of when we can go, not if.

I have half a dozen friends, all gun owners, who have moved out of MA in the past 2-3 years. It's not just the gun laws, but the atmosphere in general. They've all moved south because that's where the future of the country seems to be. My son moved from NJ to AL, because he and my daughter in law wanted to get out of NJ. My daughter plans to move to TX next spring.

Many of the states in the northeast corner of the country are precipitating their own demise by a combination of laws, taxes, fees, and other actions that make it clear the citizens should consider themselves subjects. A lot of people are voting otherwise, voting with their feet.

As soon as we can, my wife and I will join them.

I'm sure every staunch 2A supporter residing in a anti-gun state would love to yell, "Damn the torpedos!", "Remember the Alamo!", "Live free or die!", etc. while packing up the moving truck. Unfortunately that's more fanciful thinking than reality. Careers, children, mortgages, and familial roots are powerful inhibitors to simply moving to a free state. Some folks are lucky to be in positions to choose ... others are stuck due to circumstances. I was in the former group when I left CT several years ago in that the move out of state was back to the small PA town where my wife's family is. I do recall seeing some beautiful houses for sale over the border in NY, but I would not consider any of them, determined to stay on the PA side of the map. Things worked out, and I enjoy my 2A rights. That said, upstate NY is a beautiful place, and I would have gladly moved there if the laws were more favorable to my interests.

Why isn't the population of MA marching on the Capital right now?

I have, many times since moving to MA in 1970 from NJ. I was a member of the NJ small bore rifle championship team in the 60's as a teenager. I have been a Life Member of the NRA since 1974 and GOAL since 1976. I also hold a Class A LTC in MA and have since the mid 70's. I have been fighting this fight for almost 50 years. Moving is not always an option and the more folks like me that do so only put the antis in an easier position. Besides, I don't like earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, wild fires, mud slides, sand storms, tornadoes, poisonious snakes, chiggers, black flies, aligators, high heat and humidity or 50 feet of snow in winter. :( That leaves out much of the country.

I live 25 miles from where freedom began in this country, 1 hour from Cape Cod, one of the most beautiful places on earth, 1 hour from the mountains to ski, and 4 hours from where my folks built a summer cabin in Maine in 1964. I am a self employed contractor and property manager and have built a very strong customer base that would probably not want to move out of state with me.

So rather than cut and run, I will stay here on the front lines and continue to fight the fight for you all. ;)

Thanks for all you do, James.

As a long time member of GOAL, what specific actions is GOAL taking right now in an effort to secure the right for the people of MA to own sound suppressors?

That I don't know but will look into it for you. Suppressors were banned in Massachusetts during the depression to stop people from poaching farm animals from farms. Apparently its one of the draconian laws that has remained on the books like one in a local town that makes spitting on the sidewalk a crime.

I have emailed GOAL about the issue and will let you know what they say.

PS: I also forgot to mention that I have been a member of this great forum since June of 2000 :D

I just sold off my questionable so called assault weapons to licensed ffl holders. I still had to register some sporting rifles under the new laws. My handgun mags are registered too. I have a state ccw permit and a ffl 03 collectors license. How more honest of a gun owner can I be? Again we need a nationwide ccw permit that's a gun ownership card too so we can buy guns and ammo in any state. Make us honest gun owners legal across our nation. Let the honest gun owners legal to carry anywhere that law enforcement can carry too. Put a good gun guy anywhere a bad guy can show up. Then watch how fast this **** will stop when someone shoots back. In force the hours a good gun guy needs to practice. Not limit us to where we can carry.

I'd like to have that *** shooter in Newtown for five minutes so I could show him what he'll is like. When I pass on I'll say hello to my brothers first then I'll look for Adam Lanza next. They should of buried this punk with his butt sticking out of the ground. I would go there everyday to kick it. It's not about guns but those poor cute little beautiful children he wasted. His mom wasn't so smart having guns in this house with this nut case too.

My thoughts and prayers go out for the victims and there families too plus the Leo's who put there lives in danger going into these hot zones to protect us. May God bless them.
