So I recently switched to State Farm insurance and the person tells me if I carry their little tracking beacon in my vehicle I will immediately get a discount. They say it can show if I don't run stop signs or exceed the speed limit too much I get to continue the discount every year. I accepted the beacon and the discount and I'm a pretty safe driver but am now wondering about this concept of some company being able to track me. Any thoughts?

I have one. Mine only narcs me out if I go over 80 or use my phone while driving. It doesn't seem to mind the map app. It only seems to look for web surfing and gabbing on the phone while driving. I don't do that anyway.

I'm kind of hoping when they see how little I drive they won't raise my rates.

Not for me. I use my office address, as my home address puts me in the Dallas district even though I'm about a hundred miles away.

I use the one USAA has. They use your phone to track you. Saves me 30% on my insurance. Anyone can track your phone anyway so I have saved over $400 in the last year. My 23 Kia cost me $94 a month in premiums for full coverage. That is hard to beat

No, I don’t need any more surveillance than is already out there. My insurance agent was actually going through discounts, mentioned the tracking deal and laughed saying “I know that’s not happening”. He knows me pretty well, we worked together at the county for several years.

Go way too many dossiers on me already.

I call bs on the concept. If you have a past history of tickets and accidents, your rates should be higher. If you have a clean history, your rates should be lower. It's that simple. Maybe if you're a new driver and have no history at all, it could potentially help establish a rate, but otherwise I don't see any good purpose to it.

Just curious, maybe Missouri's insurance is cheaper than Florida's, but USAA charges me $229/mo. for full coverage on my '18 Kia Sportage.

Before I retired my employer used birddogging, babysitting devices to record our speed, braking, location, engine idle time, seat belt use, etc.
I don't need this intrusion into my personal life by insurance companies or the government.

Nope. Nope. Nope! Suppose I take my GT350 to the track. That little device would have a cerebral blowout. They don't need to know more about me, they already know too much.

To me, this stuff is the proverbial camel's nose under the tent.
