My wife and I enjoy boating and plan to run down the east coast to the Bahamas next winter. After reviewing the following reciprocity laws : Reciprocity Explaination.
It appears I will be floating in a defenseless state. Any advice from people who travel and protect themselves without ending up in jail would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

Unless your name is Michael Bloomberg, you will end up in jail if you carry a handgun to the Bahamas...so...if the Bahamas is your final destination I'd leave the guns at home. Don't even try to hide it on your boat.

The Bahamas: http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_p...s/cis_989.html
Tourists who arrive by private boat are required to declare firearms (and every round of ammunition) to Bahamian Customs, and leave firearms on the boat (in a secure compartment) while in The Bahamas. In the event of your being boarded by Customs or the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, the information on your cruising permit will be checked carefully against your actual supply. Ammo' must match cruising permit exactly.
