My question is how do I take my ccw gun with me legally? I know I cant carry on person but can I take with me and have in Hotel room. And if answer yes to this question does it have to be 10 rd. or less mag. Thank You

Chicago? No! Unregistered (with Chicago) weapons are illegal if you are there overnight, even if unloaded and encased. Anywhere else in Illinois, you're OK in a place of residence (including an hotel), or unloaded and encased in a vehicle.

Ok then, Iam really going to a place called Oak Park. So if I have it in car locked and unloaded then take to my room there it may be ok?

Highly doubt it, since Ill does not recognize any other states' CHL. Stopping in a motel/hotel overnight does not give you "peaceable journey" protection.

Come on now, get real. Illinois is the only state in the country with NO provision for concealed carry. That means the wise people who run the state have made it totally safe for everyone there. There is obviously no crime since there are not people walking around with guns. After all, if there is no law to allow it, that means the bad guys are totally unarmed all the time.
It's as safe as safe can be.........Really.

From what I can see from reading up on Illinois gun laws. If you are a resident or non resident of Illinois you need a FOID Card issued by the State of Illinois, too transport any type of firearm and ammunition.
Jeeze, and I thought NY was tuff on guns. Illinois is way worse.

I know that a lot of non-residents hunt in IL, so there has to be some kind of provision for that. I have no idea about handguns, etc. - I haven't lived there for over a decade, and don't know what the laws are today.

Also, IIRC, Oak Park also had a total handgun prohibition, just like Chi-town.:(

Sorry, I miss spoke. Non residents can posses firearms but need that FOID card.

That's news to me. I didn't think nonresidents of Illinois could get a FOID because the application requires your Illinois DL number. Somebody from Illinois straighten me out.

if you are coming to the "land of lincoln"...leave your guns at home..........the "Q" ball and rahm will be watching U!!!

I lived in Illinois for several years, moved home when MO passed "Shall Issue" laws. Illinois' laws are so screwed up that I once asked my girlfriend to get me some 22LR ammo for my birthday..........she couldn't do it, because as an Illinois resident she was required to have a FOID card to buy ammo of ANY kind. Yet I could walk in any WalMart and show an out-of-state ID, and buy any ammo I wanted. But no guns.

Illinois doesn't have "Citizens". It only has Political Prisoners.

You are correct. Out of state residents do not need a FOID card and can't get a FOID card. Wouldn't matter if they did have one as FOID only affects IL residents.
Here are some FAQ that might help the OP.

As far as Oak Park ordinances here's the link to that:

NY has a lifetime "assault" weapons ban, ballistic ID database, and cloudy hi-cap mags laws :( so "way worse" may be a bit of an overstatement.
Outside of NYC, New Yorkers don't have a legal DUTY to be victims of violent crime when outside of their homes, and even in NYC, you can get a carry permit if you have enough money and influence. So yeah it's WAY worse.

The NYPD may shoot you through incompetence, but they probably won't rob you. Most of their failings arise out of a deficit of training and judgment, not character.

I lived in Chicago for 20+ years. I wouldn't live in EITHER state for ANY reason.

If you can't carry a gun, why bring it at all? I wouldn't go anywhere with a gun that wasn't legal. To many people looking to "make an example" out of you.
