Cereal and milk

I loved starting my day with that simple combo too, especially when I was a kid. Now that I'm retired, I’ve gotten back into the routine of enjoying cereal in the mornings, just like you. There’s something comforting about it, especially when I pour a big bowl while sipping coffee and catching up on the news.

As a bicyclist I have found that a couple of bowls of cereal, perhaps with fruit , is an excellent way to stoke the metabolism before a ride.

I eat cereal 3-4 times a week before work. It's quick an easy. I use 2% milk. I grew up with whole milk, but my wife got me one the 2%. She tried skim, but it was too close to dirty dish water. I like chocolate milk, but to drink, not on my cereal. I used to work with guy who put water on his cereal. Not sure how he did that. My current cereal of choice is Honey Nut Chex. Growing up, my two brothers and I could put away some Captain Crunch and Frosted Flakes watching Saturday Morning cartoons.

I have cereals on alternate days, 2 Weetbix plus three spoons of muesli and a sliced banana, served with low fat milk. On the remaining days it's toast & marmalade.

When I was a kid, growing up in the 1950's, I enjoyed a bowl of cereal and milk for breakfast.

As I grew into my teen aged years, I found sleeping late more enjoyable than breakfast, and eschewed the morning meal pretty much until after I retired about 15 years ago.

I went back to the old routine of a bowl of sweetened cereal with whole white or chocolate milk while perusing the Forum, whenever "morning" happens to arise (I love being retired!)

Anybody else do the cereal and milk thing?

John

It's ok.....BUT.........It won't run the engine of a working man......

The last cereals I ate with any regularity were Grape-Nuts or Sugar Pops with 2% milk. That was 12 years ago, before I ditched the low fat (high sugar) diet for the lower carbohydrate dietary strategy strongly suggested by my cardiologist.

As a kid, it was Corn Flakes in warm weather or Malt-o Meal is cold weather months with whole milk and a strip of bacon for most breakfasts.

Used to, and still really like Trix. But rarely eat them anymore. Still buy the big biscuits of Shredded Wheat, but they are usually for a snack with little brown sugar.

Most breakfast eaten now is old fashioned oatmeal with raisins, blueberry's, cinnamon, diced apple and topped with sliced banana and lactose free milk. Microwaved in the bowl minimizing clean up.

Most mornings I eat cereal and whole milk.
At least once a week it’s a plate of bacon, eggs,
and a pair of bisquits. Sometimes an omelet at cafe
down the street.

I see people discussing Weetbix and Weetabix. Thinking I want to give them a try, I found both on Amazon. But the price is staggering. Probably shipping.

How do they compare with the good old American Shredded Wheat? If they're comparable, then I think I'll save my money and stick with Shredded Wheat.

For a couple of weeks I eat Frosted Mini Wheats and then switch out for a couple with Raisin Bran...between those two and the Metamucil I'm a walking time bomb! 😂

Start the morning right

I like coffee when I wake up. Whatever
cereal is on the shelf and milk about mid
morning. Sometimes I wait until lunch
time.

Cereal in the morning will keep me going
all day if need be.

When I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes about 8 years ago, I attended nutrition classes to learn how to eat healthfully. I learned that cereal and milk is one of the worst possible choices for breakfast. Very high in carbohydrates. You get a sugar buzz and feel great, but in a couple of hours it is gone, and you are hungry again and out of energy. Since I started eating better, my blood glucose level is good, and I am not hungry again in a few hours, and I am down to the weight I was when I was in high school.

Carry on...
