CHICKEN HELP

If it clucks and doesn’t put down the cell phone and doesn’t stop its a hen. If it’s on top of the hen house crowing dodging bullets at 5am it’s a rooster.

By the time they are big enough to eat the roosters will start crowing.
Couple or years ago I got 18 chicks, 6 guaranteed to be a type of brown hens and 6 what ever sex leghorns and 6 whatever of another variety. The 6 were the only hens LOL. I bought one duck at the same time and she is a great layer.

We had moles digging in our lawn so as the Kittens grew I thought they
were eating moles. But no, on April Fools Day they both had a batch
of kittens. We never knew who was the proud father, but we had our
suspects.
Growing up on a farm with many cats around, I guarantee you there were at least two if not more, fathers of the litters. Toms will fight over females, but as soon as the "winner" has his way with the female, the loser or another suitor always sneaks in afterword.

Go to " Backyard Chickens", set up an account, go to the
appropriate forum and ask your question. You'll get an
answer from experienced folks. I go there when I have a
chicken question. Good folks! Good luck. :)

Rhode Islands are a little easier to "sex" than some breeds. By the time they start growing their adult plumage, the roosters should have darker neck and tail feathers, and you'll notice more pronounced comb and waddle development. Plus, the roosters will be a little larger than the pullets. If I buy straight run chicks, I expect about 10% roosters to be minimum.
My chicken flock has been totally destroyed this year by racoons and fox - something got a hen last night, which leaves me with only one remaining, out of 85 at the beginning of spring. No more for me - too expensive, but I sure love those brown eggs.

About the same as a chicken egg. You wouldn't know the difference. We can only tell because the hens all lay brown eggs and hers is white. Shells are a bit tougher.

My mom used to collect duck eggs for making cakes. She swore they made a better cake.
