Close call

Yesterday my Wife and I were in Mansfield, Ohio taking care of a few chores. On the way back home, we were on Rt. 30, which is a divided highway. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a buck begin to run across the road, so I braked hard, as it came into my lane in front of me.
It lost its footing on the concrete and slid under the front of my truck, and the right front wheel/tire hit it or ran over it, probably near it hindquarters. It got up and ran into a nearby wooded area. I couldn't see it limping, but it was running like a bat out of Hades.

Checked the truck and there was no damage at all. I'm hoping the Buck wasn't hurt as I don't want it suffering and die a painful death.:(
Glad to hear that you all are okay and the truck wasn't damaged.

In North Idaho two years ago, one hour after sunset, rainy night, just pulling out of town 45 mph, I accepted a side impact on driver's door and rear panel. I did not see it coming. I doubled back a few times and found no evidence either side of road, thankfully no bicycle or shopping cart. My bronco, however, was wiped to the tune of 2500$. Next day I searched both sides of the road and found no indication of disturbed brush, soil, nor fur. What ever hit me must have determined I deserved it.

I think we can explain this.:D

In Wyoming, there are 2 types of drivers! Those that have hit deer and those that will hit deer. We live 20 miles rural. My wife commutes that 3 to 5 times a week for work. I'm retired but worked construction, so a lot of miles driving early morning or in the evening. I've lost track of how many deer have committed suicide by our autos. It's $500 deductible every time for my wife. I was always in a company truck when one would jump out in front of me. You learn to brake if you can but drive thru them. Your car will take damage, but stay on the road. Drive safe!

You're wrong, there are three types, have hit, gonna hit, gonna hit another (and another, and another.......

I hit two on two different occasions with the push bumper on my cruiser. Unfortunately both of them end up with both back legs broken. I put both out of their misery with a double tap from a Glock 22 and got my son out of bed to come get them. I was working the night shift. I was impressed with the ballistics of the 40 caliber. Had they been healthy enough to survive I would have let them go. I have had several hit the side of my cruiser and run off apparently unharmed. While working the night shift in a rural area I have received several deer vs. car encounters. I would do the reports and if the parties involved didn't want the deer and it wasn't badly damaged...I would get Jr. out of bed.

I was driving home one night, about 9 PM, when my little Isuzu pick-up was rocked, side to side. The next day, I found where a buck's antler had struck the right rear fender.

A few years later, I was driving to work in the morning fog. I had my eyes peeled for Bambi, but what I saw instead was a black bear. It was coming out of the woods on my left side. I figured if I tried to stop, the bear would be right in front of me. Well, I tried to speed up, but the 4 banger in the Isuzu wasn't up to the task. :D The bear hit me at the left rear fender. There was a church about 100 yards away, so I stopped to see if there was any damage. The fender was bent in a little, but the truck was still drivable. I went back to check on the bear. What I found was my little plastic hubcap in the road, covered in bear spit, but no bear. It obviously ran off into the woods, but it must of had one heck of a headache!

Driving the deserts of SoCal and Arizona, it was jackrabbits. I found the best thing was to steer right at them (they'll move) =if you try to avoid them, they'll move in front of you every time!

Got broadsided by a wild pig=damaged the fairing under my brush bar and ran off. Saw a guy hit an elk just outside of the Stanley Hotel in CO, and I have hit deer in Utah and West VA. All ran off due to the adrenaline.
