Color filled my M&P 15-22. I chose to use the Enamel Paint route for durability and longevity. To many that have this question: (YES), it is safe to use either (paint thinner) or (mineral spirits) on the polymer. I used the Testors Enamel red and white paint, and the Testors Enamel Thinner. I believe I perfected the process of painting the etching.

Once you are done however, to many people the polymer can appear cloudy or hazy where you were applying the thinner. I believe the hazing is not the polymer "drying" out, but otherwise it is the residue left behind after the thinner has dried. To solve this I simply used Hoppes Oil/Lubricant(pronounced Hoppies) believe it or not to remove the hazing. Note: Do not use Hoppes No. 9 solvent on the area, it is a solvent and it will remove paint.

What did you use to apply the paint? And did use the thinner to clean the excess? How long did it take for it to dry before you cleaned the excess? Thanks

I used to small model brush to apply the paint. When I first started the process I was applying the paint liberally all over the etching. Overtime I perfected the process by going over each letter individually filling up the cavity with paint level to the surface of the receiver. Immediately after applying the paint I would take T-shirt material and would rub the paint in one direction overall the letters I filled. You need to use T-shirt material so you don't remove paint from the etching with small fibers. After this I would let it dry for about two minutes then go around the letters carefully with a Q-tip soaked with mineral spirits. I would let it dry for another minute or two and then go over the area again to remove any excess paint being careful not to pull paint out of the letter areas. once you've removed the majority of the paint around each letter I would let it dry for about five minutes then take a Q-tip or of the T-shirt cloth and remove the paint with one large swipe over the letters using light pressure. Don't be afraid to go over letters again to make sure that they are filled that's how you get crisp letters.

Good luck

Very nice, the paint seems to be more crisp and have a better "pop" to it versus crayon, IMHO.

Absolutely that's why I went with the paint. I felt that it would last longer and have a better look to it I'm glad I did it it looks great!

color filled m&P 15-22 and my Canik55

I saw this section, so thought toss mine in. I used nail polish that had sealer coat polish in one. should last a while. sorry the canik in the pic, but was the only pic I have of the M&P. lol

I would let it dry for approximately 5 minutes then take a Q-tip or of the T-blouse material and get rid of the paint with one massive swipe over the letters the usage of mild strain training. Don't be afraid to head over letters again to make certain that they are crammed that is how you get crisp letters.
