Colt Pony

I went to the LGS today to see two guns they had on inventory. A Colt Pony and an SA35. Both used. The counter guy knocked $80 off of both of them,making them $600 each.
I’ve been waiting for a SA35 to come along used and I’ve never seen a Pony. SN is ML03119. Anyone have an idea how old it is?It will probably get carried some. The SA got put beside my Hi Powers.

Buy the SA35. Great gun, recent write up in Handloader magazine by Brian Pearce. The Colt Pony was tested for accuracy some years ago by the NRA and reported in the AR magazine. Results were not encouraging.

Colt serial number lookup shows your Pony was made in 1997. They only made them a couple of years and there was also a Pony Pocketlite (same gun but with a lightweight frame). They are great pocket carry guns. Take care.

Thanks for the lookup. I owned a Mustang once but I think I’ll like this one better.

AFAIK the Pony is a DA/SA derivative of the Mustang/Government model Colt 380ACP. I've only seen a couple advertised for sale, because they are somewhat uncommon.
I'd be interested in one at the right price. FWIW, $600 might be a bit more than I would be willing to pay, based on the reviews I have read.

But that's just me, and prices for quality firearms continue to rise, so YMMV...

Yep, I remember the Pony's from the mid to late 90's in the gun mags. Colt came out with a few nice guns during that time frame, and then they just went away.

Handloader magazine #349. Brian Pearce says the SA35 is a great buy at the $799 retail price. $600 would seem to be a screaming deal. The best time to think about selling a gun is when you are thinking about buying it. If you paid $600 +tax for that Pony that turns out to be less than reliable for SD carry do you think anyone else will give you back what you paid for it? Buy the SA35 and spend another $200 for a Ruger LCP which is almost certainly a better gun for SD than that overpriced Pony that has the name Colt on it.

Congratulations! Enjoy both of them. A 25 cal Raven is nice if it goes bang on the first trigger pull.
