Concealed Carry/Mass Shooter Thoughts

..I would say the women, and most others, get attacked while going to and from the car...I constantly tell my daughters that, that is the most vulnerable area/time.

Then shouldn't you be walking them into the store yourself?

I am not a people person so the odds of being someplace where such is likely are pretty small. OTOH, I am almost never unarmed, and as I get farther from my surgery I will likely go back to my RDS equipped 4" Shield.

IF I was in such a situation and could directly see the threat, I might take action. The appropriate action in such a situation is be at a distance at which I can reliably shoot the offender in the face. (Face, not head; learn your anatomy.) If not, the best choice is likely to escape and help others do so, because most of the time, police response are getting faster and more serious. I don't want to be looking like an unknown threat when the cops come trotting in.

I’ve notice that there are bazillions of web pages, groups, platforms, videos and forums on the internet that discuss, buy, sell, evaluate guns, gear and ammo. But in comparison almost nothing on training. There are millions of new gun owners out there since 2020. Lots of unskilled untrained gun owners. I’m constantly pushing training. If we spent a quarter of the time, money and energy on training as we did stuff then we’d have something to talk about right there. Train!
the Concealed Carry podcast does have a lot on training, mentality, legal aspects
...they do push a lot of dry fire training since you can't do much at the range as far as moving, ducking, etc....they have instructors for training classes on the podcasts ..they go a lot into the legal aspect and have books/manuals/etc on it
..I think they have you tube channels also

Would not stand by…

…and watch others humans being harmed.

Having directly involved myself in deadly force situations when off duty (when a LEO) and since my retirement, I would take appropriate action should I face one again.

My ‘duty’ as an armed (and well trained) human takes precedence over my personal well being. Could not live with myself if I took NO action and others were harmed.

BTW, I never sit with my back to the wall unless alone. Would not want to use others as shields.

Be safe.

I live in western Washington where politicians and citizens believe that all guns are evil and the people that carry them are worse.

So in general, these folks are on their own. There is a small chance that I would help but only if the conditions were in my favor. I would look to get out of dodge first.

If a loved one is with me all bets are off. We’re going out the closest emergency exit.

One must also consider the political fallout. Good guys with guns are being vilified for doing the right thing. I don’t need nor want that kind of attention.

....I would say if you are at a school or anywhere with the majority of people are children, everyone has a duty to protect the kids if you are armed or not

I live 5 miles from the recent Allen texas shooting mall. The black truck that pulled out to the right ( slowly btw) away from the shooter. I can’t help but think if I were him he would have got a 1500fps hot 357 in the back or head from a 686. But we’ve not been in this situation and don’t want to be. These lunatics have got to be stopped and the LE might not be there anytime soon!

Spot on!

I also have an issue with LEO Retirees not carrying under LEOSA. The PD I retired from, according to the Rangemasters. Say most retirees do not make it pass the second or third qualification.
The lack of availability of places that offer qualifications for LEOSA and the costs involve, very well might be a big consideration.

What does it normally cost? As an LE firearms instructor the thought of charging a retired cop to qualify doesn't even enter my mind.

I'm currently reading, "Deadly Force Encounters, Second Edition". It is surprising how often civilians get involved during a mass shooting event. Not only do they get involved with an armed response, but also in other ways. One thing that officers and civilian CCW holders are mostly in agreement about is that smaller caliber (mostly 9mm) high capacity pistols are preferred over lower capacity larger calibers, i.e. .45 ACP calibers, such as 1911's. I'm still learning.

My neighbor was a retired LEO firearms instructor for the county sheriffs. When we discussed active shooters engagement he said hits matter regardless of where, and if a shooter appears to be wearing armor than target from the waist down...or as he put it " shoot their expletive legs out from under them"

If I remember correctly this happened in the early 90s. At that time carrying a handgun in public at all in Texas was a crime.

On an unrelated note:

I've seen people post on various forums about how they go shopping with their wife and they sit in the car while the wife goes into Walmart or the mall or wherever and does her shopping. Several of the people who make posts like that have stated that they're there for their wife's protection.

Every time I read these posts I think the same thing, if you're out in your car and something happens inside the store, first you have to know about it. Then you have to get out of your car, get into the store and the FIND your wife in a paniced crowd.

It just doesn't make any sense to me.
most of the crime/attacks/kidnapping/carjacking/etc happen outside the store/going to and from the car
..mass shootings are rare...I'm not worried about them....I carry at Walmart, etc --not that I go to that ******** much....

I don’t often go to malls, but do visit our local Walmart pretty regularly. Like most of you here, I may get shot, but I couldn’t run or hide while carrying the means to stop a mass shooter.

“Mass Shooter” is media and political hype to promote gun restrictions.

A “Mass Shooting” is typically defined as a incident where four or more people not including the shooter are injured. So if gang related shootings and family murder/suicide are removed from that criteria what would the actual number of shootings be?

If the criteria is changed to how many people are killed the number of incidents drop dramatically.

It is a campaign designed to create a atmosphere of fear so people (sheeple) are afraid to leave their homes.
