I'm having a tough time concealing a J-Frame, 637 to be exact. Granted I'm newer at carrying, but I seem to have a lot less problem with my 3953. I'm 5'10" 170lbs and have a 33" waist. I have tried both a galco summer comfort and a similar clip holster from a local maker. On both they tend to print and seem to dig into my back at the cylinder wearing at 4 o'clock. I can't bump it up to 3 o'clock or it is very noticeable.

On an unrelated note, I'm used to wearing my jeans just at the top of my hip bones, top of pants even with top of hip bone. At that height the gun moves too much for my liking, the gun rides nice when the bottom of my belt is just above the hip bone. In this configuration my Levis tend to be a bit too snug and need something that rides higher. Anyone know of a brand of jean that has a bit more "top to bottom" room?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

FWIW, as we speak, I'm wearing a belly band with
an I-frame 38S&W. I have it positioned so the barrel is above my waist-band. In the cooler months it is comfortable. Gun is about nine-o'clock, accessible thru top button on shirt. Can be rotated more to the front when necessary. The gun is pulled tight agaist the body, and undetectable under a shirt.
I can wear this setup all day without discomfort. A steel frame
snub is in it now, but an Airweight doesn't really feel any heavier.
Hey, works for me... TACC1

Was going to suggest you pull your pants up but that's mean.

Try a Galco UDC158 or, better yet, a Remora. Both are extremely concealable and should work with your body type.

Re: the jeans, check a local retailer for Levi's. They have charts that show the "style/fit" of all the jeans Levi's make.

Be safe.

When you're new to carrying and you look at yourself in the mirror, it's seems obvious to you that you're carrying. The truth of the matter is that most people just aren't that observant. I belt carry my 442 at about the 3:30 position in one of my homemade thumbbreak holsters with an untucked shirt. It seems obvious to me but as we're leaving the house my wife asks if I have my snubby with me. She knows where I carry it but even she doesn't notice it.
In the summer months, I pocket carry in my Dollar General shorts with my homemade pocket holster. And again it's noticable to me but not to others, even with my grip peeking out a little. I get my trousers a size larger and that gives me some pocket room for my snubby.

I pocket carry my 442 and 642 in either a Remora or Tuff product:

Haha wow lots of good info already!

The Big D, I do pull the pants up haha, hence my question about them being uncomfortable. I wear 569's which are loose straight legs.

Snubbyfan and Cook74, the pants do not have pockets big enough to pocket carry and draw from. Snubby, how do you like your OWB? I'm thinking about going the route of a pancake.

I carry my J-frames in either a Tuffs or Harley belt pouch. To stabilize the gun, I keep mine in a newer #4 Uncle Mikes pocket holster.

I do notice the 642 once in a while, but the 360PD disappears.

OWB is the most comfortable way to carry for me. So comfortable in fact, that I had forgotten my snubby was even there. I've tried IWB but I just couldn't get comfortable with it.

I don't like the wait or the customer service, but the price and the quality are excellent.

Alessi Gun Holsters

It sits lower and deeper than your typical IWB; might be right for you.

Or consider ankle carry.

After wearing Levis all my life, I picked up a pair of Carhardt Duck Dungarees last week. Sort of a cross between a traditional Levis 501 and a set of authentic BDUs. The best jeans for CCW I have ever owned. $40 at Tractor Supply and various on-line retailers.

That's a nice basic usable design.
I've been working on designing a wetmolded concealment belt holster. Decided to dye it black so it'd like all cool and tactical and stuff.

The secret to carrying anything at the waist is to wear a good gun belt. Most days I wear a nylon instructor's belt with Velcro closure. I also have a couple of older leather gunbelts, double layers and even with metal reinforcement. I use the Alessi IWB or the OWB Bianchi Shadow pancake style and my J-frames don't show. When the dog and I do our perimeter patrol at bedtime I grab an Uncle Mike's pocket holster and jam the snubbie in a front pants pocket. I've been wearing Carhartt blue jeans lately, and the pockets are deep enough to conceal a snub in the Uncle Mike's nylon pocket holster.

A nice gun belt is something I have and that does make a world of difference, I have now gotten to the point I prefer it even when I can't carry.

I'm about your size and I carry IWB in a pair of Wrangler ProGear jeans, 2" oversize in the waist, riding at the top of my hip bones like you do. These jeans have bigger pockets, more "top to bottom" room with a bigger fly, and heavier denim than the Levi's and L.L. Bean Double L jeans I used to wear. ProGear jeans are available at Cabela's. I've carried a J-frame 638 in a UBG Canute holster comfortably at the 3:00 position. I'm currently carrying a Shield 9mm in a Remora as I no longer have the 638. (I've never pocket carried the 638 in these jeans but the pockets are big enough; I do sometimes pocket carry a BG 380.) To keep your gun from digging into your back, move it closer to the 3:00 position and find shirts that conceal it better. By picking just the right size button-down shirt, worn untucked, even I don't see a bulge. I also wear a gun belt and it helps, especially for any holster that attaches to the belt, although not as important for the Remora. Happy hunting for the right setup.

The only garment worse for concealment than a tee shirt is a wife beater. A golf shirt is next to worst.

You can wear an in tucked camp shirt any where a tee shirt is appropriate.

Select the right cover garments and printing will not be an issue.

I carry my 60-9 in either a WRB pocket holster or a Galco tuc-n-go IWB depending on which pants I'm wearing. The IWB can be uncomfortable, but is not noticeable.

Clipdraw has to be used with a good, wide belt, with the clip riding on the pant waist, behind the belt. @3:00. I found I can't tuck a shirt behind the pistol, as it tends to lift it out of position. I haven't had any problem with a secure carry- as long as I wear a good belt.
I'm trying now a new Remora, mostly out of curiosity.

M37 and a Bianchi 5B H

This is what I like. Sorry about the stupid cell phone picture but photobucket ain't workin' for me lately. I wear this daily and with a good belt it is easily concealable. When a person first starts CCWing it feels like they are printing badly. the truth is, they ain't. I like the Wrangler blue jeans for the fit. Not to short between the waist and crotch. Good sized pockets and pretty good spacing between the belt loops from 1 to 2 o'clock. My favorite way to CCW is in the inside upper left hand pocket of my Carhart jacket. But then it gets pretty hot in the summer time, not to mention suspicious looking:rolleyes:
Peace,
gordon
