Considering the 2.0 Compact 9

Happy New Year to you all. I currently have a Shield 9 that I have used as my primary EDC and am considering moving up to a larger pistol for EDC. I have been researching the options out there and have narrowed my choices to the 2.0 Compact, the CZ P10-C and the Glock 19 Gen 4 or 5.
My LGS has the 2.0 Compact for $389 so it has quickly moved to the top of my short list. The CZ is going for $469 and the Glock 19 G4 for $499.
If there are members out there that have the 2.0 Compact I would appreciate hearing about your experience with it.

Do you like your Shield, if you do then get the 9c 2.0.

If you do not like your Shield then by all means look at different products.

But remember you are asking about buying a S&W on a Smith and Wesson forum. What do you think the answer would be?

Of your 3 options, I'd go w/ the M&P. I own and use Glock's (43&30); CZs (p01; SP01; P09) and M&Ps FS & compact both ver 1.

All quality guns. As you are looking at striker fire guns, of the 3, the S&W fits me best. I've never had an issue with either of mine. Plus S&W has a lifetime warranty...... a valid consideration

The Glock 19 has proven itself for nearly thirty years. The others are new, unproven imitations. Go with the G19.

I got mine for $399 at gunbuyer.com. No tax, no shipping. Just the FFL of $25. Couldn't find it for less than $499 locally.

To the OP, I don't think you can go wrong with any of your options, really, so it might just come down to feel if you have a chance to handle all three.. I love my M2.0 Compact so far and haven't seen much bad pub on it at all. It's a great gun, especially if you're getting it at that price point.

I switched from a G19 to the 2.0C recently. So far I'm happy with that decision. The ergonomics of the 2.0C are better and it's only 3.6 oz heavier than the G19. I shoot the 2.0C just as well and get no BTF issues. The P10C was not even considered. It's longer in the grip than both the other options.

Objectively all three are great options; I've. had two Glocks, and seriously considered the CZ P10c in my most recent edc hunt. I ended up choosing the 2.0 compact. Coming close to 1000 rounds through it now and lovin it. Personally I'm not big on the Glock grip angle, and part of my descion was influenced by S&W being an American company and made here. I bought mine about three months ago for $468 at Kyle's Gun Shop - located locally in my hometown of Cincinnati, but he sells on the internet also.

I have not had the opportunity to handle a new 2.0 M&P9c but would point out that unlike the original M&P 9c, which has basically the same footprint of the shield 9, the 2.0 is (reportedly) bigger in all dimensions. Personally, I own both the origonal 9c and 45c. If I were going to go to a 4" barrel, I'd step up to the (only slightly larger) M&P45c.

The LGS I am referring to is Shooters here in Jacksonville. The $389 was only a special for today I believe but they are good at extending their sale prices. Their pre-sale price was $469. The Glock 19 Gen 5 sells for $590.

I just recently purchased an M&P 2.0 9mm Compact. I have only put 160 rounds through it, but it performed flawlessly. I also have two Shields, and the 2.0 Compact just feels like a larger version of the Shield. It is very accurate and comfortable to shoot. If you can get one for $389, that is a very good price. Mine was $439 plus FFL transfer fee.

To me, it has a better trigger and grip angle than my Gen 2 Glock 17. For the difference in price, you can't go wrong with the M&P. It comes with 3 different grip inserts, so you can choose the best fit and feel. Grip texture is very aggressive, but can be tamed with some very light sanding if need be. Also, it is available with or without a thumb safety.

If your LGS raises their price before you make a decision, you may want to try AAFES if they're not too far away. I got my 9c 2.0 at Eglin AFB at a great price. Unfortunately for you it was during a one day sale. In addition to the sale price there was a 5% discount if you made the purchase on your Star Card. And, up until Dec 31 S&W was giving a $50 rebate for pistol purchases. When I get the rebate check my 9c will have cost $320!

I know there are NEXs in JAX but have no idea about AAFES. Most AAFES have a decent Sporting Goods dept. with a fair array of weapons. They also sell ammo online. Hope that helps.

REALLY have had only very positive accuracy and handling experiences with my new 2.0 model 9 Compact! If you want something to compare, the FNS 9 is a 4" barrel which holds 17 rounds and is virtually the same size. I have both. I am not a Glock fan due to the odd grip angle. Get the Smith 9C 2.0....you will be glad you did. Regards, Ed

Hardly cz been making the CZ75 longer...the M&P has been around over a decade and they have proved themselves for years

Glock is a decent gun but has far far to much hype for the reality, it has issues like anything else..

The two non-Glock guns the OP asked about are new and unproven. He didn't ask about the CZ75 and the M&P in question is a new model.

I have a carry my fullsize 9 and my 9c in a vedder holder aiwb -appendix
Love them both I've had glocks but I'm not a cop or a gangster. I don't care how many they've sold . Getting a gov contract means more guns for the money. Nothing else. I used to be a glock fan boy. I've shot thousands of rounds through them shot them in the ransom rest, carried them etc. There is nothing wrong with them but after 30 years they still have terrible triggers, terrible sights, and they are still shaped like a brick- yeah they work -don't get me started. As for the cz I had a cz years ago before my ransom rest. So no accuracy comparison. Nice gun but almost zero aftermarket support(Cajun gun works).
Also extended mags were non existent. Now the m&p 2.0 a few facts.
It's more accurate than a g19,
The sights are nice and steel -rack your glock using the sights then check back with me.
The grip angle is natural-m&p
The stippling on the 2.0 is AMAZING
The trigger on the m&p is better than the glock
THE M&P IS AMERICAN
Also at least myself. I can tune a m&p trigger to about 4.25# smooth as glass using nothing but time, stones, and polish/dremel.

The thing about the glock is they are on gen 5 and still no GOOD improvemen's
The m&p is on version 2.0 and atually adressed their custoners demands. I think glock engineers if there are any should take a good hard look at what m&p just did. In the end they all work. I just know for my money I'm getting more with the m&p than the glock. The cz I can't speak to much on.

The Gen 5 Glock the OP mentioned is also new and unproven by your standards. They changed with the extractor, trigger, locking block and made some cosmetic changes like removing the finger grooves too. If you don't trust the "new" M&P 2.0 you should probably strongly recommend avoiding the Gen 5 Glocks at all costs too.

I have a Gen 4 Glock 19 I bought right after they came out and with certain types of ammo (Winchester white box in particular) the empty casings just barely dribbled out of the gun sometimes when it was new. Others had reported failures to eject. I heard a lot of people complaining about that and others complaining about brass to face issues. Glock makes reliable guns but they are not perfect. And others like S&W have caught up with them in terms of reliability.

Glock sells a lot more guns to police because they make good guns and were there first. Why go through the trouble of looking for the best possible gun when you can just buy more Glocks and go home early? Back in the 80s people in corporate IT departments often bought IBM PC computers because "nobody ever got fired for buying IBM". The same is true for Glocks today.

If you have bought into the "All guns should be Glocks, all Glocks should be 9mm, all 9mm Glocks should be Glock 19s" thing, fine. Buy nothing but Glocks. But just because they were first does not mean they are the only extremely reliable gun on the market.
