Considering the 2.0 Compact 9

I switched from a G19 to the 2.0C recently. So far I'm happy with that decision. The ergonomics of the 2.0C are better and it's only 3.6 oz heavier than the G19. I shoot the 2.0C just as well and get no BTF issues. The P10C was not even considered. It's longer in the grip than both the other options.

Similar story on my end. Have several Glocks and have been carrying them for a couple of decades now (been through the 45 ACP Glocks, to the 40 S&W Glocks and a few years back to the 9mm 19's & 43), but picked up 2, M&P Compact 2.0's a bit back for carry purposes.

I picked up the first one and took it to the range and side by side with one of my 19's and I just shot the M&P better. Also liked the new trigger, and the texture, so I went and bought a second one and have been carrying the M&P since.

A few years ago I had purchased an M&P 9c and even after putting a RAM in it to try and get the trigger closer to what I am used to (tactile and audible reset, etc) the gun just wasn't for me and I sold it off.

The new 2.0 Compact has a lot to like about it.

To the OP, I'm originally from Jax (born and raised) but moved to Indiana about 23 years ago now. I've been our to Shooters a couple of times during trips back. Nice shop and good prices from what I have seen. I'm signed up for their email just to give me a good idea on pricing.

I have a Shield that I carry often and really like. I also have and carry a Glock 19 gen4 that I have changed out the trigger and sights on and also installed a Grip Force Adaptor on. I like it a lot but I am a lefty and have had to put up with dealing with right handed guns all my life as an LE officer and shooter. I have been looking for a replacement and have been looking at the CZ P10C, the FN 509 and the M&P 2.0 Compact. I purchased a P10-C and really like it. I am still considering the M&P 2.0 as well. Everything that I read about it is really positive. I do not think you can go wrong with any of them. I also like the Gen 5 Glock with the ambi slide release and the lack of finger groves.

I've owned and shot Glocks for 20 years including six G19s. The last two of those were Gen4s and both of them gave me a severe brass to face hammering until I finally found the Apex extractor kit. Been fine since then, but I will never buy another one.

I did recently buy a 2.0 compact and so far I really like it. Normally it takes me a good bit of time to adjust to any new handgun, but the 2.0 just brings a smile to my face each time I pick it up. A bit over 500 rounds so far and would be more if it weren't for the crappy frigid weather and the flu.

Add to the fact that I bought the 2.0 for $439 locally while the Glock Gen4 is $499 and the Gen5 was $649. Then you get to change out the truly awful Glock plastic sights for another $100 or so and you can see that Glock takes advantage of their customers.

Just my opinion.

Carried a G19 and G23 for the past 5 years every day. Thought I liked them UNTIL I shot my friends 2.0C. The grip angle was the first thing, it just felt "right", or I should say WAY better. The second issue was the trigger on the Smith was way better. The third is that if "felt" softer to shoot. The fourth was I shot it more accurately (outdoor range). The fifth was that is it American. The very next weekend I had my own and have carried it every day ever since September 2017. But some like the Glocks grip angle, I didn't know I hated the grip angle until I tried the Smith.

I have packed weapons professionally since 1962. For the gubbimint, for a big city PD, and then Uncle again(and still). Carried Glocks because I had to for 5 years, they got the job done, but I always felt that I was packing a chambered Browning HP with no safety. Have packed just about everything that revolved or ejected. I did not love the first S&W MPs but they did build one in my favorite caliber-.357 Sig. SO I got one and have loved it ever since. I recently got 2 full size .20 in 9mm & .40 S&W (which has already become a .357). These are the last new guns I will ever use, everything you need and nothing you don't.
If the shorter butt is important to you get the compact, but the barrel is only .25" shorter, I felt that the extra butt length was nada so I use both in full size and for BUG use a Smith 940, or a Shield 40, that has a custom.357 barrel.
The compact has no great advantage over the full size IMHO, but you must be the judge of that, your specific needs like your miliage will vary.
But get the Smith, that lifet.ime warranty is worth its weight in gold sometimes, and I suspect you will be a happy guy.

Today was the first time I've been able to handle a M2.0 9c at my LGS. I'm quite sure that one is now in my future. I have the full size MP9 (4.25 in) and a Shield 9. But the new 4 inch 2.0 is a real winner. The trigger felt very good.

This was true. However, in my travels, I never see any Police carrying Glocks nowadays. The Cities and Sheriffs carry M&Ps. The State Police carry Sigs.

T

Glock sells a lot more guns to police because they make good guns and were there first.

MTC(Bubblehead),
If your LGS raises their price before you make a decision, you may want to try AAFES if they're not too far away. I got my 9c 2.0 at Eglin AFB at a great price. Unfortunately for you it was during a one day sale. In addition to the sale price there was a 5% discount if you made the purchase on your Star Card. And, up until Dec 31 S&W was giving a $50 rebate for pistol purchases. When I get the rebate check my 9c will have cost $320!

I know there are NEXs in JAX but have no idea about AAFES. Most AAFES have a decent Sporting Goods dept. with a fair array of weapons. They also sell ammo online. Hope that helps.

What boats did you ride?

I did; Triton, Sunfish, Spadefish, Thomas Edison and Stonewall Jackson.
Retired in '93 from CSG-9 in Bangor, Wa

Cheers,
Ed
I'll have to check out the NEX's in Jax. I normally don't shop at them so I don't know if they have firearms. I will check out AAFES web site for the ammo.
I rode Benjamin Franklin, Lafayette and Robert E Lee, also tours on Simon Lake and Canopus shore duty at SWFPAC and SWFLANT. Also retired in 93.

Happy New Year to you all. I currently have a Shield 9 that I have used as my primary EDC and am considering moving up to a larger pistol for EDC. I have been researching the options out there and have narrowed my choices to the 2.0 Compact, the CZ P10-C and the Glock 19 Gen 4 or 5.
My LGS has the 2.0 Compact for $389 so it has quickly moved to the top of my short list. The CZ is going for $469 and the Glock 19 G4 for $499.
If there are members out there that have the 2.0 Compact I would appreciate hearing about your experience with it.

Remember that the compact will be a lot heaver than the Shield when you add 13 to 16 rounds in it. Also the grip is shorter than the shield too. I added a HYVE +3 mag extension to mine to increase the grip length and feel comfortable shooting it.

I've not found a NEX anywhere that has followed AAFES into firearm sales. :(

PM sent.

I've added the Flixxer grip extensions to both of my Shield mags. I haven't shot it yet with them but it does make for and easier full grip.

Try and handle and shoot all three. I have had a few different pistols and after buying, selling, trading, and shooting demonstration pistols, I am down to a .45 Shield with TFX sights and talon grip and a 2.0 c in 9mm with a truglo laser sight (otherwise stock and I see no upgrades needed for my use). For me, the .45 was the better shooter in my sub compact search and the 2.0c just fits perfect as a do it all gun for me. I am very accurate with it and I like the size, comfort and economics of the 9mm round. Your mileage and preferences may vary

am considering 2.0 9mm....is it too much to ask about your finding it available for $389 at your LGS....sorry, don't know what LGS is
Many thanks, Creekman

I've had G19's twice. The first one I sold. The second, I won in a contest I didn't know I had entered. The G19 has been in a class of its own for a long time. 4" barrel, 15 round mag, light weight. However, its drawbacks for me are (1) No factory thumb safety and (2) a terrible--IMO--trigger. The "middle finger" of the Glock trigger never feels as good as my Shield 9mm and just begins to hurt after a couple hundred rounds.

The only reasons I haven't already bought a 9c2 is that I want to give it a little more time for growing pains to work out, if any, and I want to hear a little more here on the S&W forum. I'm pretty sure, though, that as soon as my penny jar is full, I'll be taking it down to the gun shop.

Finally got the chance to go to the LGS to look and fondle the 2.0 9 compact. This pistol really feels good in the hand, although the surface on the grip is a little on the rough side. Do like being able to change the grips to get just the right size. Trigger felt great dry firing, short travel with a crisp break and a distinct reset. Can't complain about the price either, they have them for $419. Now I just have to convince the better half I NEED THIS GUN!!!!

A 4 inch barrel was a criterion for me in selecting a 9mm for SD. Chances are that I will only shoot paper with it using 115 grain FMJ. I carry it with Corbon DPX +P solid copper HP. Out of the 4 inch barrel the 115 grain bullet has a velocity of 1250 FPS and 399 ft lbs of energy.

The SD9VE is almost identical in size to the MP2.0 Compact. It does have a SD trigger u like the MP, but I do not have a problem with the trigger for SD use. I bought a clean used one with 3 mags for $205. Put 100 rounds through it since buying it six days ago, and no failures. Accuracy is excellent. Recoil is very manageable. Ergonomics put the Glock 19 to shame. I could have spent a two hundred dollars not for a near MP 2.0Compact but the idea of spending nearly $100 for each pound of trigger pull weight reduction seemed extravagant. It is a viable option.
