On the same hunt where the elk and black bear (other threads here) were killed were also seen the two cougars, assumed to be den mates out for an afternoon picnic. Tags were available but it was one day before legal. Never seen afterwards.

All the camouflaged people running around in ATVs, RVs, 4WDs, and in our case we had a helicopter come over our hunting canyons looking for game.

That's how Brer elk and deer know..................:D

A new hiking trail was opened on the East Side of Scottsdale a couple of year ago. My wife and I were one of the 1st hikers and as we were going up others were coming down. All of a sudden a Cougar went streaking across the trail much too fast for pictures. We suspected it felt surrounded and that's the reason it broke cover.
We routinely see Bobcats in the suburbs here.

They must be fairly young to be together still. Males are forced out of the group and go roaming alone looking for mates. We have cougar in Iowa but the DNR pooh-poohs most reported sightings. They generally admit we have them when one gets hit by a car or a hunter kills one.

I've seen several of the cat kind, usually while elk hunting. And come to think of it, quite a few of the bar kind!

Our thread drifted....................but I like it!!

I have never seen a cougar (the 4 legged ones) in the wild. I would thrill at such a sight.

The Father of the hunter who killed the elk, the man in the bear pic (other threads) was hunting turkey many years ago with his other son when the boy was about 10. As they sat in their blind in the Gila National Forest, calling turkeys, a cougar walked behind them at a distance of about 10 yards or so.

I have a lady friend who was fishing a small stream in New Mexico when she had a pair of cougars (4 legged) climb down into the stream with her at about 10 yards or so. She was afraid her fly rod was not going to suffice as a whip........the cats left after checking her out.
