Have the opportunity to trade a 19-7 kcomp for 686 cs1 3". All things being equal as far as no box, condition. Both in excellent btw. Is this a good trade for both parties involved? I prefer the 3" full sight radius to the Kcomps shorter. Stainless vs blue isn't a factor. It would also be neat to have a gun with an interesting back story as well given the cs1 has the 2m stamp and the pachmayers. Opinions would be welcome. Thanks

While I think the K Comp is a cool gun, I'm not a fan of ported short barrel guns. I would much rather have the CS 1 especially considering the provenance of that model.

My humble opinion, make the trade. CS-1s have gone up in value so much that i was able to even trade a 3" CS-1 ("2M stamp and box) for a 3 7/8" 610-2.

I feel as if it's a good trade too. Just wanted some outside opinions on it. Thanks for chiming in guys. Feeling good about it now for sure.

Let's be honest, a pre-lock factory ported PC revolver (ANY pre-lock PC revolver but especially the ported ones) beats a regular production S&W hands down on every day that ends in Y on the open market. BUT! at this time, the PC 19-7s and 13-4s have significantly dropped in value in recent past sales, most likely due to saturation over the past 6-12 months. CS-1s (obviously not standard production but not PC) in the past couple of months are at or near their highest historic prices.

In my opinion of the current market, your trade is weighted in your favor.

That was my only reservation with this trade was the pre lock performance center quality vs cs1. Not that I would question the quality in a cs1, just how it compared to the performance centers workmanship. Thanks again for the help everyone.

Josh nailed it. Make the trade you will be happy you did.

Made the trade. As soon as I can I'll post pics. The action on it is sweeeet. It does have a couple cosmetic spots but lockup is tight and really doesn't look to have been fired much, or its been really well taken care of. Really happy with it and thanks for everyone's opinions.

I am glad that you made the trade.

As someone who owns both of the guns in question, the K-Comp would be in line for sale far before the CS-1 3".

I don't think that it is fair to try and compare the two as equals. One was mass produced for an LE agency that had very strict requirements (and S&W was bending over backwards to please them and encourage future sales) and the other was a Performance Center offering to the open market.

I have zero problems with either gun. They are both nicer than the average 686 or 19 that would have been on your dealers shelves in the late 80's to early 90's. They are both worth owning and shooting, but they are not cut from the same cloth. As an investment, it is a toss up, they both have their up-sides.

Good luck with you new CS-1. :D
