Custom 17 / 617

The speed bees are available from Amazon, but I bought the DS-10s from 4wheelguns along with an otterbox loading block combo.

Where did you get the Speed Bees loading block and loaders?

I hit the speed beez web page and bought them through Amazon. The loaders work really slick. Loading the block is what takes time.

At the moment, I don't take the block or loaders to the range because its not prudent to blast through my stash of .22 ammo!.
My Ruger Mark II & III's are getting a rest too.

Special 617

It's a production item. Just a little different than the run of the mill 617.

Very close to a 627PC.

Anybody have any pics to share of customized 17s and 617s. Just picked up a 17-8 10 shot. Considering sending it to S&W to fit a stainless cylinder in place of the original aluminum cylinder. Should look something like this if completed. Before on left(mine) after on right. This one belongs to a fella on here who I have yet to speak with, goes by VAdoublegunner...
For the record I'm not thinking of doing this because of any reliability issues, gun works great. I just don't want to ruin the black anodized finish on the aluminum cylinder which was typical of these with use. I'd like to throw a stainless cyl. on and beat the hell out of that and set the original aside to preserve the look of the gun for the future.

Daaaaamm blued gun, stainless cylinder, wood grips sooooo sexy does not get any better then that, had to stop drooling!

617PC

Actually it's a 617-1 ( 6" ) that was shipped to Germany in 1998. S&W shipped 306. For some reason they never released this 617 for sale in the US.

Here it is, a 5" 617.

Now that looks like it would be a real win for S&W if they made a 5" available out of the box. I hear a lot of praise for the balance of the 4", some complaints of the front heaviness of the 6", but praise for the 6" accuracy. Seems a 5" would be an interesting middle ground.

Well it took a while but looks great. So did they ship back the original Cylinder, or did you just ship it without the Cylinder so they couldnt nab it?

Ansac Speedloader

I'd get a couple of the Blued Ansac Speedloaders for that rascal. The Bright ones would look sharp as well. Shooters Connection has them. Word is they are the Awesome.

Had it out for the first time since its trip back to the mothership. This thing is a lead eating monster. Im afraid of how much ammo ill go through with speedloaders. I love it. And dead accurate. Im picking off old shotshells lined up across a 2x4 at 25 yards consistently.

I really like the 2 tone on that gun. We have a Steel Match here that is specific for the revolver 22's. The guys are getting the Ansac's because there is a mandatory speed reload in the timed string of fire and they work the best. We are working on the magic trick of getting the spent ammo to dump without it sticking in the cylinder now.

Thank you very much. I love the way it turned out.
I also experienced real sticky extraction. Broke some skin slapping that extractor.
