CWP in bars/restaurants

I had lunch at Chipotle yesterday.

I was CCW with a M60, NY-1.

Yes, I had a beer with my burrito. (Steak, pinto beans, rice, salsa, etc. with bag of chips and salsa.) Beer: Bud Light.

Yes, I then drove about 100 miles to my home.

Did NOT get shot, get my butt kicked, shoot anyone, rob the place, get pulled over for DWI, speed, or crash into anyone.

This will undoubtedly come as a huge surprise to all who proclaim such misbehavior (with multiple transgressions) will cause harm to one and all. I hope you are not too disappointed.

Be safe.

I don't take issue with what you did, but to me it is a question of "Can you beat the odds every time?". The law in Va clearly states not to drink while CC. We (most of us, anyway) criticize criminals for not abiding by the law. We use it as part of our defense in some arguments. We proclaim to be "Better" than them.

So to me - I'd just as soon keep my nose clean and not walk on the edge hoping I don't get caught then if I do complain about having to defend against something I feel I shouldn't have to defend against in the first place. I would not want to be categorized with Dwayne Ferguson - strongly supports the SAFE act then carries on a school ground. There is a difference between driving after a beer and CC while having a beer. One law says limited, the other says Don't.

It just cost money - but it's my money. If I can choose the right path, I'll do so. Right or wrong...that's my opinion.

I do agree...be safe. :)

I had the chance to use an M60 when I was in the Army in Vietnam, a long time ago. I'm impressed that you can conceal this machine gun!

I do not live in Virginia.

Hmmm, did you not understand my post? I do not live in Virginia. :( And, for the record, I do not live in NY, either, nor is my name Ferguson. Further, I do not violate any CCW laws...ever.

Be safe.

I quoted the entirety of the Nevada law concerning "Possession of firearm when under influence of alcohol, controlled substance or other intoxicating substance" in the other thread, here is the link:

This includes a link to the code itself.

Clearly the laws vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. Wittmeba if I lived where you do I would not drink while carrying. I try to be very careful not to break the law. I am glad that I live in Nevada.

The Big D,
I was not intending to attack you or your post. Sorry if it appears differently. It's all good - go in peace :)

CowboyKen,
Thanks for your post and the link too.

All good.

No worries, wittmeba. I am only aggravated by those who state anyone who enjoys a legal adult pleasure is wrong and irresponsible by doing so.

I consider myself a good citizen, responsible gun owner/carrier, and law abiding. When people suggest otherwise it gets my hackles raised. Perhaps it should not, personally, but I have always tried to stick up for others, too.

Be safe.

I never suggested anything about you or your actions, nor that you live in Va or are like Dwayne Ferguson.

I too love my Dos Equis and a Black Russian but I just stated that while carrying I won't engage in either. In Va it is illegal and I too try to be a LAC.

We are losing our Rights all the time...I don't want to contribute and make it easier to have more of my rights taken from me. :)

jmo, I think carrying firearms and driving cars should be regulated similarly. Most states have agreed .08 is legal intoxication. I say it should be a crime to be armed and intoxicated. I should be able to have a beer after a hard day's work without disarming.

Let me clarify. In this state it is not legal to carry into a bar. However you can go into a restaurant and sit in the dining area but not at the bar.

I think this is good. Too many beer muscles in bars. Drinking and guns don't go well as has been said here before.

In the state of Alaska, you do not need a carry permit and you can carry into bars. They have a significant problem with drunk youngsters shooting each other.

Living in WA as well I have to disagree with you in regard to carrying in a bar. What is the different if I am drinking in the restaurant part of the establishment or the Bar. Many of times I would prefer to sit in the bar of Applebees or Red Robins, which, the way they are designed is nothing more than a pony wall separating the two. I can get just as looped on either side of the wall. Drinking and guns is a no-brainer, they do not mix any more than driving drunk and should have the same penalties as such IMHO.

Honestly, living here in the land of libs, I am amazed we can still open carry.

My utmost respect for many of these posts.

For the record I don't drink when I carry (actually quit drinking completely) and I just started carrying. Don't do drugs and I am a non-smoker.

My only concern where some may take a stand against laws and feel their freedom should not be infringed (to drink and carry even if only 1 or 2 drinks/beers) is the when laws are put in place they don't implement laws for specific individuals - they are written for the general populous - then those who chose not to drink and carry are also affected.

So it is important to make wise decisions whether for yourselves or to help others.

Just for a laugh...but related.

The other night I was out drinking. I decided to take a Taxi home.

Now my dilemma - I don't remember where my car is and don't know what to do with the Taxi sitting in my driveway
