I have recently bought a vintage S&W J Frame. The gun has a small amount of endshake. I have ordered shims from Midway to correct this.

Close examination has also revealed that with a little pressure the cylinder will jump the frame stud. I discovered this during cleaning after a range session, while using a rod and brush to clean the cylinder. It does not do it when ejecting cases.

What is the fix for this?

Hold the cylinder while you are cleaning it to avoid putting force on the yoke. You screw up the yoke you will spend $$$.
The gun may be worn or the yoke bent from snapping the cylinder open and shut already.

I owned a 337Ti that I carried as my EDC for several years. The same thing occurred while cleaning it one day. The cylinder backed off of the crane to the point that it bound against the rubber grip.I called customer service and then sent it in to S&W for repair. They told me that it would need a new frame and that they were no longer made so they replaced my gun with an M&P 340, my choice!

I was afraid that while doing a reload in a serious situation, that it would do that and cause me to acquire extra, unwanted holes in my body while attempting the reload. They would have sent it back to me as is but said that it could not be repaired. My gun had a fairly low round count at the time/
