We got just enough rain recently from a stray thundershower for me to need to mow our substantial yard again. I was about halfway through when I ran over a long piece of hay bailing twine that somehow ended up in the yard. The twine was green so I didn't see it before the mower drove over it and immediately sucked it up and wrapped around the blade spindles making a heck of a racket.
I shut down the mower and raised the deck to look under underneath and see if I could just pull it out. Unfortunately, it wasn't going to be that easy, it got wrapped around all three blade spindles and blades and I was going to have to cut it out. After making sure the key was out and everything was safe I reached under to see if I could reach it, but even with the deck all the way up it still wasn't quite high enough.
It was at this time that I noticed Daisy had meandered up to see what was going on;
Daisy be like, "Hey, what you doing?"
Me, a little exasperated and talking mainly to myself while still laying on the ground looking under the deck, I said, "Daisy, I sure wish you could go fetch my tool box from the barn for me." She continued to stand there looking at me.
"You know Daisy," I said out loud, "If I had something to prop under here just so I could reach another inch or two that's be great. Maybe a stick or something."
Daisy be like, "did you say stick?"
At the word "stick" Daisy turned and walked away only to return a minute later and lay this stick down next to me to throw so she could play fetch. I looked at the stick and thought, dang, that may be the right size. I grabbed the stick and stuck it under the deck and it was just enough so that I could reach in and cut the middle of the twine then pull both ends out and it easily unraveled from around the blades and spindles. Problem solved.
Sometimes she's handy to have around.
