Dang! Anyone price a pick-up lately?

I'm ready for a new pick-up. I haven't had one in a few vehicles in favor of SUV's and my latest, an '09 Pontiac G8GT I got just before Gubment Motors shut 'em down. I'm keeping the car. It's been "personalized" and I only use it in summer anyway. So I want to do a 36 month, 36,000 mi company lease a nice super crew 4 door, 4x4 mostly for winter and whenever driving. I have no doubt my kids will find use for it.

I've been on line on the manufactures' websites and recently started to check dealer inventory in person. I'm pretty much "middle of the road" in what I want for options. etc. I like nice stuff but nothing that outrageous. Man, you can get north of $ 50k without much effort what-so-ever and entry level for what I want is in the low, mid $ 40's. Talk about sticker shock! Geez, that's serious folding money.

Pick-ups are strong on residual so the leases aren't too terrible but that's offset because trucks are such a strong segment for dealer sales. It looks like they are might be starting to deal now in advance of the new Ford and GM p-u's coming out later this year. Maybe it's worth the wait to hold out a bit and see what rock bottom looks like.

I won't buy a GM at this point. Just too about the bail-out peeved me. And without starting any wars, I've personally never been a huge Dodge fan. I will do a quick fly over at the Toyota and Nissan dealers but I not sure I can pull that trigger either. So the F150 is probably where I'm at so far.

And of course there are a bunch of rebates and incentives that I don't qualify for. That sucks!

Used to be buying vehicles was fun. Now it's a pita. An expensive pita!

Bought a new 2008 Nissan Frontier that year. It hasn't missed a lick and was made in Tenn. Put a cap on it, ARE just before our 11030 mile camping trip last summer. Not one problem. FYI. :) Oh yeah, I got free tires for life, and a 48" flat screen to boot. :D

Sorry, I worded it incorrectly. Was a CUSTOMER who has more money than some 3rd World Countries and you know what, shes a Women!:D She has a bunch of other high end vehicles also.

Guess hubby makes the big money.

oh, no, you din't.....;)

Trucks have definitely gone up in price over the past few years. I think a lot of it has to do with more and more luxuries that were never there before. You can't find "manual" anything on a truck anymore. I drive a 2007 Dodge Dakota with a V8. It's mid-size but perfect for me and pulls everything I tow fine, which is a 6x10 trailer and a 20 ft. fishing boat.

I really like the F-150 and am thinking that may be the next truck I get when this one runs out. I never buy new, but if you're looking and have time to wait around, there's a new model Ford Atlas which looks amazing. Since Ford dropped the Ranger last year it is suppose to be a step up from a Ranger but not as big as the F-150. Suppose to hit the market in 2015.

I just got in the new exhaust for my 6 cylinder pick-up truck yesterday. The old was was starting to rust off...

Got a Magnaflow and it could make a great place to hide my 4513 :p

EDIT: Or I could say "does this gun make my pipe look fat?" LOL

It seems where I live none of the dealers want to make a deal on a new truck. Most people here go over into Oklahoma or down around Dallas to buy a truck. Those guys will deal with you. That doesn't put aside the fact that all of them are very expensive and mostly out of reach for me. I would like to have a new truck for sure and if and when I buy one it will probably be a Ford F150. I bought my wife a new 2008 F150 Crew Cab 4X4 Lariat at the end of 08 model year and made a heck of a deal on it. What I need to do is buy her something of her choice like maybe a small car or suv and just take her truck. Sounds pretty good to me. Just need to start working on her and see what she thinks. Probably won't work.

I may very well have to put old blue down later on this year :( Her door locks don't work with the remote any more, the passenger side windshield wiper doesn't work and the cigarette lighter gave out so I can't charge my cell phone. Little things for sure, but I know she won't last forever...........
I think my next truck will be the crewcab Toyota Tundra. I really want another suburban, but I just can't see paying 50k for one. I guess if I can get it financed at say 2% for 15 years-or lease one like all my clients do :D

I bought this one 4 years ago and paid it off last week. 5 year loan.

It's a '04 and now has 53k on it. I want to lay my hands on some Yukon leather and then a super charger.

I think I'll keep it for a while.

Tundra all the way. I bought my 10' model in late 09. I couldnt have asked for anything better for dependability. The 6 speed tranny makes gas mileage much better than the 09 or older models (4.7 liter). Those only had a 5 speed tranny, where the 5.7 liter had a 6 speed tranny. In 2010 Toyota put 6 speeds in all of their Tundras.

With a bit over 40K miles on mine, she still runs like a champ.

Pickup trucks are out of this world expensive.....they're not trucks anymore but luxury vehicles. We American males equate our trucks with virility and are willing to PAY! There's a reason why pickups are THE most profitable vehicles in their line.

I'm one of the addicts; I'm currently driving a 2011 Avalanche, traded in a 2008 Avalanche, for which I traded a 2004 Tahoe, for which I gave a 2000 Tundra. I loved 'em all.

But, those $100. fillups are killing me; I'm lucky to get 16 mpg, and parking the bruiser at most suburban restaurants is a bitch. My wife grunts and groans climbing in and out.

Help me, I've been looking at Subaru Outbacks and Foresters!!

People are bigger than they use to be and the cars have all got smaller. Us 6 ft 2+ 300 lbs guys all go for trucks for the comfort and ease of getting in and out. Percentage of population wise there are faaar more trucks on the road than cars years ago. On top of that it seems the vast majority of trucks are extra cabs now where they werent.
I had a job in the early 60s that issued me chevy and gmc trucks with the old straight six. It sure seemed to me that they were as powerful as the standard V8s now. Some of them were 57s etc. I think the first truck I personaly bought was a 1965 ford F 100 with the 351 engine. A 8 ft stepside.
Wish I had it now. I never been without a truck for the last 50 years. One of my favorites, a 1998 (?) GMC with the 350 V8 was a nice one. It was stolen out of my driveway in 2003 and has never been recovered. Probley went to mexico. I also had a 1992 GMC shortbed standard cab I bought new that I loved. It also had the 350 with a 5 speed straight stick. A drunk T-boned me. Miss that one too. I would like to see the companys go retro and build some old style ones.

Thomas McGuane wrote this soliloquy (or rant) for Rancho Deluxe in 1975. Prophetic, or what?

Mr. Colson: "I've seen more of this state's poor cowboys, miners, railroaders and Indians go broke buyin' pickup trucks. The poor people of this state are dope fiends for pickup trucks. As soon's they get ten cents ahead they trade in on a new pickup truck. The families, homesteads, schools, hospitals and happiness of Montana have been sold down the river to buy pickup trucks!... And there's a sickness here worse than alcohol and dope. It is the pickup truck debt! And there's no cure in sight."
