Datona 500

Too bad the rain messed it up today as it was sold out. Not a big NASCAR fan, but a fan of Motorsports in general. It was cool to see "The Beast" take a lap. The President is a master at marketing to his base.

Gotta root for Team Penske since my son is an engineer with them. He writes the program that analyzes all the data they gather and creates some type of AI. It will actually tell them the odds of when the crashes occur and when they should pit, etc. based on all the past and current data the program crunches. They really use it to it's full extent in their Indycar and IMSA programs.

Better luck tomorrow.

I watched the opening ceremony. I have no clue on the current rules of "stock" car racing. I understand it was a rain delay race and will be re-run tomorrow at 4pm. I wished they used real cars that could be purchased at a dealership.

Well............
a 45 minute rain delay did not help but I did switch channels and watch Hank and Roland play with some fish, for a while.

Race finally came on and all I saw was "Follow the leader" with no passing allowed................

Got near the end and it rained again and the race was shut down until Monday, due to darkness!!

Don't they have lights at that place ?? !!

Not impressed with what I saw, I should have gone fishing with the neighbor.
Hate to say it but it's the last Daytona that I will ever watch.

Boring !!

As usual a couple of rain drops brings everything to a halt on the last pace lap. I guess NASCAR has never heard that rain tires are being manufactured! They run in the rain all the time in Europe and I've never understood why we don't do so here?

They can’t race safely on an oval if it’s wet, at least at any speed. Indycar will run in the rain on road courses, but not the ovals.

What? Rained out. Why is it that little 80 year old ladies, who can
barely look through the steering wheel, can drive 50-60mph in the
rain on the freeway and these guys can't do at least 140-150mph
going in a oval.

I did a little research and Goodyear in fact has a NASCAR rain tire which was tried once at Montreal and worked satisfactorily. These is no information I could find as to why this wasn't continued at least in light rain conditions like happened at Daytona yesterday.

I know it is racing and you accept risks BUT Hamlin whoopin and hollerin with his crew while a fellow racer is trapped in a demolished car is a little much. When they interviewed him not a word about Newman or our prayers are for him right or just saying NOT now to the interview.
When they interviewed the 2nd and 3rd guy THEY talked about Newman and focus is on him being OK.
NASCAR can kiss my butt, watching no more

I think that once Hamlin knew the circumstances, his celebration stopped. He was VERY subdued in victory lane.

Rumor is that NASCAR told them to celebrate to remove focus from the rescue effort

When Fox wouldn’t show the rescue efforts, and the frack set up drapes around the wreckage while he was being extricated, I feared the worst. What relief. Prayers for recovery. Tomorrow would be the 19th anniversary of Dale Sr’s death at this track.

Watching the Beast and the motorcade going down the track was really something. Hearing the news some one was joking around and said at the end of the lap the president was doing donuts. Truly something great to watch the President participate in the race.
