I won't claim to know everything but I do know this makes no sense. I would destroy my own guns if I thought it would prevent another mass murder but it wont. Them not selling guns and destroying gun will also do no good. Dick's got even worse when they were bought out by Field & Stream, it's a shame.

Growing up in the town Dicks got its start, I always had a soft spot for them but finally gave up going in a few years ago.

I really don't care. The manufacturers got their money and those who want one have many places to buy them at. How about this, Dicks can purchase twenty million worth of AR's and destroy them. That would really make a statement and help out the manufacturers during the slump.

In the short term it is a win for the companies that manufactured those arms. They got paid for them but will never have to service them. Other manufactures probably gained as well as those of us who would buy them will buy them from somebody else.

I’m guessing this side of the looney bin, nobody flushes $5M down the toilet... Hard to believe there’d be enough positive PR alone among anti-gun customers to make up for the loss...

Sure, lost inventory even destroyed is a deductible loss. They will have to sell a lot of pink tights and granola to make up for the guns that they would have sold.

Read in our local paper they are also selling off a lot of their Field and Stream stores to further distance themselves from the shooting community.
