Dick's is opening here in Pensacola in Cordova Mall in the next few days. Never been in one. Just what should I expect. Are they good merchants or not? What about prices, are they competitive and are the clerks well informed and courteous?

Thanks in advance,

Regards,

I don't know what to expect from them? I never heard of them till a few months ago when it was announced they were opening a store here in Corpus--sometime later in the year.

There's one a mile from my house. Used to be handy for fishing gear and the occasional shotshell or rimfire purchase. Even found a desperately-needed set of scope bases there once.

Then they got all crazy last winter. I'll never go in their door again.

The good: They have an extensive inventory and they really beef up their stock for sports in season. Their stuff is usually top-notch quality. Their return policy is good. They are actually very "community friendly" by sponsoring club discounts for youth sports teams. They have some pretty good sales and close-outs in their weekly flyers. By-and-large their staff is friendly.

The bad: Here in NY, they got rid of handgun sales a number of years ago. As mentioned, they were among the first firearm outlets to "pull" modern sporting rifles from their shelves after Newtown, Their "normal" prices are somewhat scary. While their staff is friendly, they are usually not too knowledgeable.

When my kids were younger I used to shop there all the time. In the past few years; not so much. They've soured a bunch of their customers by their corporate decisions.

We don't have a big competitor for Dick's in this area so they do pretty well here by default.

If you want something soccer related, tennis related, or golf related, they might be OK. For guns, ammo, or fishing the one near me is terrible. The only time the place was well-stocked was during the grand opening. The employees I dealt with were not knowledgable at all. Prices were outrageous.

Here in Seattle, Dick's is a small hamburger drive in chain:D, been around for longer than I can remember. Good burgers and fries if you like grease. (and I do at times).

I remember the one in Spokane, too. Home of the 39-cent burger!

There's LOTS of them around me in central NC. IMO, you're not missing a thing.
No handguns, high ammo prices and guys working there that are much more comfortable selling basketballs.

The problem with DSG is that they are not an outdoorsman store like Gander and Bass Pro. They concentrate on all sports, so the hunting/fishing/shooting section is almost like an afterthought.
I'm not impressed with them. Their prices are insane for the most part, and like has been mentioned, they helped lead the charge in the latest anti-gun campaign by removing AR style rifles from their shelves.
I don't have any use for them.

The nearest Dick's store is maybe a half mile from Gander, but somehow neither store seems to feel the need to have competitive prices on anything.
There is a Bass Pro coming soon - hopefully they'll force some more reasonable prices instead of just having 3 overpriced stores near each other.

Same here. Dick's and GM are 1/2 mile apart. Sadly, from what I've seen at the Auburn, NY Bass Pro Shop, you're about to go 0-3 in finding good prices!

BPS; Great inventory, "sell the children" prices!

We seriously need a Cabelas someplace around Waterloo Hillbilly!

Just sayin':rolleyes::D

A couple of years ago they were one of the few places that had CCI standard velocity .22 LR. I bought 20 bricks for $25 a brick. At the time I thought that was high because I could buy Blazer for $13.00.
