I just bought this an hour ago at a small gun shop and I'm not real knowledgeable of Smiths of this era. I take it that it's a pre model 10 ?
It's .38 Special and the bore and chambers are shiny and rust free.
Timing is spot on with no push off and the end play is .001.
The frame and cylinder serial numbers match . C 238740 so if I'm reading the book right that's 1953 . No numbers on the grips and no rust anywhere.
The bluing is dang near perfect for an old timer like this so probably not a former LE gun .
I paid $290.00 for it . Good deal or OK deal ?
Thanks in advance.
Also that grip adapter was on it when I bought it .

Dirt cheap for that vintage and condition. And the adapter is another 20 bucks or more.

I hate to disagree, but this was NOT a good deal...it was exceptional in today's market. Now don't tell me you got the box and papers with it. The case colors on the trigger would have sold me.
Thanks for the kind words Buford . Unfortunately no box and in case anyone was wondering no I didn't stop at this shop to buy a Glock .😉

I had to check you posting date to see if this was an old thread. The answer to your question is....YES! Maybe a better question would be how much is it worth in today's market. I'd think $450 is not out of line..

Thanks guys . This small shop is one of those shops that only sell Glocks and AR's and plastic guns so I was really surprised to see it in the display case . Actually it was the only revolver in the whole place .
Maybe he sells so few revolvers he had to look up the price in a 10 year old Blue Book of Gun Values.

Or he thought "Look at this old thing, no plastic on it at all! And where does the magazine go? I better price it low and hope some sucker comes along!" :D

The last thing I need is another 38 Special. . . .but I would have bought it too. Not easy to find them that old in that condition; especially not at that price. Enjoy.
