I visited the LGS the other day and found they had acquired a supply of cases and bullets for thirty-five Remington (.35REM) caliber. Knowing of a friend (I have to pay him vast sums of money to say that) who owns a .35 REM rifle I bought these items to make a quick turnaround for him.

The next day I called him to tell him about this treasure, and lo and behold, he didn't want them, but instead wanted to divest himself of the rifle.

I'm no fool (in spite of what some who know me have said) and being as I have wanted said rifle I bought it too. So now I'm the proud owner of an old, refinished, Remington Model #8 rifle and 200plus rounds of ammo for same.

What has this treasure cost me? Well, I paid the LGS $150.00 for the cases and bullets, and my friend (more money down that rabbit hole) $150.00 for the rifle. Now I'm left wondering if perhaps my friend (still more money sent out of pocket) has taken advantage of me???

I'd say no... Really cool rifle, IMHO. What you need now is to locate a nice Marlin 336 and a handful of deer, elk & bear tags (from other States, unfortunately)!

Cheers!

P.S. I reload 35 Remington for a buddy with one: hardest thing to find was good brass, which I eventually found on this forum.:D Northeast Reloading (nereloading.com) has 180gr SPFN & 250gr SP .358" bullets available, and shipping is included.

I have three rifles in that fine old woods caliber: Rem 81, Rem 141, and Marlin 336. Used to have two of the Marlins, but I foolishly sold the older of the two a few years back. If you really only paid $150 for that Model 8, you should definitely be prosecuted! Seriously, congratulations on a really great acquisition.

I own a late 70’s Marlin 336 in .35 rem. I still hunt with it every year. I’d buy a Remington model 8 in .35 Rem. For $150 in a NY minute.
I’ve been after my brother in law to sell me his for years now. He’s recently retired and plans to move to Maryland in a few months so hopefully he’s interested in selling it to me finally. He also has a Remington model 8 in .32 , maybe I can make a pkg. deal !

Good catch on that.
Born and raised in Upstate NY .
Marlin 336 in 35 was my first deer hunting rifle.
Dad had a Model 8 in 30 Remington as his main hunting rifle.
You have a nice piece of history there that is still useful as a deer rifle.

Wow- I’d say you did very well indeed OP. Most of the time, I hunt deer with an old, 1914 mfg Remington Model 8 .35 Rem and inside of 150 yards it is an absolute freight train. Mine was handed down to me and a few years ago I had mine refinished and it looks fantastic.

I reload for it and mostly use Federal and Rem brass thought I don’t reload nearly as much as I used to.

A Mod8 Remington in 35cal, even if refinished if half way decent cond is a great buy for $150.

Love those Mod 8's. Have two in 35, one 'C Grade in 25.
Sold the 32 and a Model 81 in 35.

I have a Stevens 425 in 35Rem as well.
Great caliber and all are fun shooters.
I shoot mostly cast bullets in my rifles.
Brass is getting harder to find, but it's out there.

You can with the right HD press and some work (swaging the base, etc) make it from 308win.
A last resort but it'll never die with that option still available

A nifty thing about the 35 Remington and its big brother, the 350 Remington mag, is they can be down loaded to fire 357 bullets. They work well with Lees, 200gr flat point, and a gas check and can hit 2000fps in the 35 Remington and some guys say they are getting 2400fps from the 350 mag using hard water dropped bullets that have been powder coated. I haven't tried for over 2000fps in my little model 600. A 200gr slug at 2000fps should go through anything I every have a chance to shoot with it.

SAECO #352 2 cavity mold throws a 245 gr bullet, but the mold is runs about $150 shipped

The Saeco mold or the RCBS 250 fp now long discontinued. shoot very well in my 1951 Marlin. Either of them get pushed about 1750 fps and it takes a lot of meat to stop that bullet.

Graf and Sons shows one of the Saeco molds in stock for $136 plus $ 13 shipping. When I went shoopping for a heavy 358 mold I only found the 200gr FP from Lee.
