Did the gun boxes get thrown out?

"It too was tossed into the big box in the attic."

As for my attic, I have enough wood stored up there that if my house ever catches fire and burns down I could build another one!

The only new Smith and Wesson I ever bought was a Model 640 at a price I just couldn't walk away from. It'll be about 20 years old now.

I've turned the house upside down, and I just don't know what went with the box.

Aloha,

I know I have saved boxes.

I know I have S & W guns.

I Don't know if I have the gun that goes with the box.

I will have to inventory the boxes one day.

I did inventory ALL the guns.

Now the Wife KNOWS how many I/WE have.

The last new Smith & Wesson I purchased was a 640-1 back
in August of 1997 to be used as a CCW gun. I think I paid
$300 for it. I kept the blue plastic carrying case along with
the VOX paper, Firearm Locking Assist Device booklet, the
Revolver Safety, Instruction & Parts Manual, Product Regis-
tration Card and a Laser Engraving pamphlet with pictures
of various designs you can choose from. I also the red plas-
tic locking device too. Never used it.

If I ever sell the gun, I should get a higher price with all the
goodies included.

I tell my wife the new blue plastic S&W boxes are "blue boxes of happiness". She just rolls her eyes at me & then smiles.

Gun Boxes

When I was a kid my dad built to dormer rooms into bedrooms
for me and brother. He built every thing in to look like a birth
in a sailing ship.(yea, he was Navy, they can't help it) Anyway
the bed was the lid for the sea chest. I got in the habit of putting
pistol boxes under the bed. Between dad, brother and me in the
span of 15 years it was getting full, I don't know how many.
All were S&W, Colt, Ruger, and Browning. To make a long story
short when I moved out my stepmother cleaned room and threw
out all those boxes. Didn't think to much of it at the time, 1974.
If I had those boxes now they would be worth a small fortune.
Not to mention guns that were in the boxes.

I would keep mine for a while and then get on a cleaning kick and away they went. Yeah, I was stupid.

Boxes here. Boxes there. Boxes EVERYWHERE. lts GUNS l need. Want to share?

l am just kidding because l collect those pretty blue boxes. l just cant help it.

The first S&W revolver I ever bought and the only one I ever bought new, came in the box of course. I saved that box for years. Oddly enough, long after I had traded the gun off for something else. I saved that box, and a bunch of others, stacked on top of my gun cabinet. Long gun boxes went under the bed. That stack of handgun boxes reached almost to the ceiling in thos days. Mostly Ruger back then.

Then one day I just threw them all out. Got tired of them gathering dust I guess.

I've bought and sold several since then, used "with the box and papers." I always sold them the same way.

These days, the only box I've got is the plastic one for my 442.

Just ask your wife... ;)

All my hand guns are either in their original Factory boxes (most) or in a period and model correct Factory used box that I acquired after purchasing it. It bothers me not to have the correct Factory box. There are two exceptions with two very early 20th Century Colts. I just have not been able to find boxes worth the price being asked. Still the quest goes on.

I keep all new gun boxes.

On used guns boxes came with a 629, a 24 and a Thompson 1911 45 ACP. 3 guns of hundreds. Small percentage.

Have worked part time or helped in many LGS'. I've seen folks buy a handgun or long gun and buy a holster and or carrying case and leave the box with the dealer. Some LGS guys liked having them for shipping guns for repair etc. If they did not need them into the trash they went.

I've saved every box from every gun I have purchased in my life. Did this long before I knew I should. Just seemed to be part of the package to me.

Probably half of the used guns I've purchased have had the box with them. It is always a plus for me. If I'm on the fence as to a purchase, depending on the gun, having the box will seal the deal. And not having it may send me walking.

I still have the boxes for the first rifle (Ruger 10/22) and first shotgun (870) that I purchased new. Why, I'm not sure. At this point, they're just taking up space. The guns are kept in a safe. I almost used the 870 box when I needed a box to ship something, but decided not to.

For me boxes are very important. I have bought a M25-2 from 1972 in its box including all accessories and if I smell inside the Box, it takes me decades back ;-). Also the quality of these items as described, wonderful. Look at these wonderful boxes in gold or the old boxes from pre war. Little pieces of art in my opinion.

...boxes??

I do know a bit about boxes, started in the mid 60's at the Chagrin Falls ,Ohio armory gun show, used to see folks buy a gun , walk out the front or rear doors, and toss the boxes in the trash can,,,,yep I pulled them out....sometime later I cleaned out an attic in the old gun shop in central New York, ,owner told me clean out the attic and keep the boxes, yes took over a 1000 boxes out of that shop,,,,,,,,, some time later, in the early 90s bought 400 S&W boxes from a dealer in Louisville, $3.00 each if we took them all, first trip out to Tulsa, bought 5 large garbage bags full of boxes and sold a few there, paid for the entire pile.....recently a shop north of us was remodeling their office had over 300 Smith and Colt boxes, I told them I'd take them all offered him $3.00 each , but before I could get there, his brother burned the pile, I saw the remnants, in the ashes, metal corners for the S&W boxes, sad really.... so going back , I did it all BEFORE it became fashionable, valueable?? they called me the "king of cardboard" back in the early days of the OGCA, sold many, many boxes to Smith and Colt , and Ruger collectors...yep, even helped Mr Supica when he and Rich were putting together the S&W Standard catalog ,Vol 3....................
bottom line, will never know why so many folks think NOTHING about "packaging";)

and to others, they are like gold !!

My empty S&W gun boxes were on a shelf that someone overloaded causing the shelf to collapse damaging all the hithereto perfect boxes. Stuff happens to boxes that are usually kept separate from their guns.

Back in the '70's, early '80's I used to help outa buddy in his shop-- lot of guns were sold, many people just walked away and left the box with contents on the counter-- we would just toss the box up on a piece of plywood over the door to the shop in the back, roughly 4X4-- there they stayed--;)
