Dinner $186, plus tip..........

First Congrats on the anniversary. Now as I'm not a fancy food eater I would just take the lobster with butter and steamed broccoli. Wife like it when I steam some shrimp, lobster and mussels, were low keyed folk.

And as the ol' cliché goes 'Happy Wife Happy Life'.

LOBSTER THERMADOUR?

Good effort. Not sure if I saw a ? there. My wife was the same way, same old thing over and over, but when it's her day I let her get what she wants. When you grow up 15-35 miles from Manhattan there are an awful lot of fine dining joints from every ethnicity you can think of, so why not be a little adventurous? Since we started dating she had never had sushi, any Chinese other than chop suey, no Thai, very few fish, crabs, clams, mussels, oysters, (let alone raw), no game, very few ethnic other than her own Sicilian. Now she eats a much wider variety of everything, but still won't even consider squirrel. I consider myself fairly adventurous when it comes to eating but still haven't tried many third world country cuisine where they don't use toilet paper & eat with their hands.

Just want to remind you guys that there's more to life and dating your wife than just dinner out. We really enjoy live theater, especially musicals, and live music. Our summer calendar is already filled with concerts and plays we'll be going to see, along with car show dates to take the old Tbird to. Next weekend we'll be going down to Ogunquit to see Grease at the Playhouse. It's an overnight trip because of the distance so we have plans to try out a new restaurant in Portland and hit one of our favorite breakfast places on the way home. Next month is busy with the Rocky Horror Show at the Penobscot Opera House, a couple of concerts and a car show/blues festival. You gotta get her out there and do stuff while you can!

What is that stuff? Kinda looks like someone barfed on the plate! (I am no kind of gourmet...give me a T-bone or a chicken fried steak any day.)

On the other hand, since it was for her, anything you did to make her happy was great!

Whaaaat??? You're no kind of gourmet? Never would have guessed that.

I guess I am just blessed. My wife is happy whether we are eating $75 a plate or $15, as long as I am paying attention to her interests.

Funny you mention that as my wife suggested a play to go to last night and I said no just to be contrary. Looks like we'll be going to it anyhow.
Big car show this summer we might be able to make as she has some weekends off now with her new job.

Keep an open mind and you'll have a great time, especially if it is a musical comedy or something lighthearted. Plus, local theatre groups often have some really talented people. We saw Annie in Bangor last year and a local guy that is involved in the theatre as a hobby played Rooster and he stole the show.

Don't forget to take her someplace nice for dinner before the show!

ETA - What are you taking to the car show?

I gave my wife a cheeseburger from McDonalds. I had a coupon. Shrug.

Nothing says "I love you" like a cold cheeseburger from the drive through. ;)

"Hey baby, here's something I got you while I was on the way to the gun store and the lawn mower shop. I wasn't as hungry as I thought I was.
While you're in the kitchen, grab me a beer!"

And they say romance is dead. You, sir, are a prince among men! :D:D:D

I'll take the Missus to our favorite steakhouse twice a year. Usually when we're in the area on vacation, but every now and then,we'll just take a leisurely drive down that way with this place as our destination. It's always SUPERB and reminds us of what steak used to taste like. In our little burg, there's not a single place left where you can buy PRIME beef. :( Yes it's pricey, but when I drive 100 miles one way to eat a steak, you can bet your azz it's GOOD! Some of you may have been there. It is THE number one steakhouse in Myrtle Beach,in all of SC if you ask me! Try it if you are ever down that way.

Looks good but: :eek::eek::eek: And to think that I thought the Outback Steakhouse was expensive.

But seriously, congrats on the special night for that special event.

Outback high priced? Pleeze, mid-range chain is not fine dining.

Most we every spent as a couple, probably around $250 including wine and that was locally years ago. Or maybe at the PepperMill in Reno when they had 4 different kinds of oysters and we had to try them all.

I do it kinda different, instead of one 200 dollar dinner,I take her out for four 50 dollar dinners......you just have to know the places that give quality for less.Still makes for nice evenings and you get out more.Having said that Kudoes for spoiling the little lady.

As Pawngal said, fine dining is an experience.
Wether you do it once a year, or once a week, it's special.
You don't think about cost. You are there to sit down for three or four hours to enjoy good company, good food, and good drinks.

If you ever go to someplace like The Breakers in Palm Beach, or The Chanler in Newport, R.I., you'll understand the difference between eating out and dining.:)

Around here the best fine dining experience and value are price fix wine dinners, usually $75-$100 per person plus gratuity. 5 or 6 course meal with a different wine matched to each course. Plan on 3 to 4 hours.

About 25 years ago or so I took my wife to Hugo's Cellar in the bottom of the Four Queens in Las Vegas. It must have made an impression, she keeps bugging me about when we are going back. I guess one of these days when we are down there visiting the kids we should go again.
