Do I Have A Leg To Stand On

I'm a cynic = What else is wrong with the vehicle? Why were the tires replaced with miss-matches in the first place? Who, intentionally, buys cheap no name miss-matches, unless, just to get the vehicle sold/traded?

If the lot is a reputable one, I'll bet it, at least, went through some sort of rudimentary inspection. If it had an inspection, I'm wondering why they didn't replace the tires when the vehicle first arrived on the lot - again, unless just to get it sold.

There are a few reasons why people buy mismatched tires and they are liget. Maybe a blowout while out of town with no match a available or they didn't know how important it is to match. Or maybe they were poor. There's no sin in being poor. There are a plethora of reasons but the fact of the matter is the lot told a half truth.

Check the wheels for stock or aftermarket and if tires are oversized . if they are you might have a little more leverage, not very much you can do about it but worth knowing. I would also look for suspension modifications, some are not well done. Jeeps are like AR 's , often highly modified.

The salesman told you it had five new tires. He didn't tell you they were
3 different brands. It could have been five different brands and what he
told you would still be true. You assumed they were all the same brand.
Not the salesman or the dealership's fault. In answer to your question,
yes it is unreasonable for the dealership to refund your money or give
you five tires all of the same brand. Anything they do give you would
be strictly for goodwill. They don't owe you anything.

You beat me too it. The dealer didn't tell a lie and the buyer "assumes" at his own risk.
I once messed with horses and one of the things I have heard a seller say is the horse has a little buck in him on a cold morning. The buyer assumes a cold morning is below freezing and a little buck is a crow hop. In reality a cold morning is anything below 90 degrees and a little buck means you had better take a real deep seat because you are going for a wild ride. But the seller didn't tell a lie. What the buyer assumed and reality are 2 different things. Larry

I had a similar situation with a dealership...

Told the manager, they can do me right or do me wrong...

That I would tell everyone I see,
I'd even cross the road and go out of the way to tell a few more folks.

* The dealer fixed their mistake and my problem with it, that very day.

Even if your vehicle came with tires of the same brand a dealer or tire store will not give you much money for them, its kind of like going to pawn shop you might get half the money something is worth. I would ask the dealer for some money but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Thanks for all the responses and replies to this post. The sales manager telephoned this morning with an offer to provide a check for the cost of two new tires to match the newest two tires on the Jeep. He stated he did not want to lose a customer who had purchased three cars from the dealership group over a couple of tires. I am pleased with the their response. It is good to know that some business still consider their customers worth saving for a future sale. Have a safe blessed day.

In my experience every thing said and all promises made before the deal is final goes out the window after you name goes on the bottom line. Get it all in writing before signing anything.

Glad to hear that. I maintain faith that given an opportunity the vast majority of people will do the right thing.

Now that this is all over with... my wife drives a tiny Hyundai Accent. (Not my car, she likes it.) She had 6 tires fail in the first two years. Bubbles, broken sidewalls, blowouts... she had them all. Most of these were warantee claims, tires replaced at the selling dealer.
She asked them for better tires, different brand but "they could only get' OEM replacement which she'd already had **** luck with. It's a light little car and we never had such troubles on any other vehicle. She went to a real tire store and bought tires two grades higher than what came on the car. Problem solved. Sometimes ya gotta do what you gotta do.
