Do I need to start stocking up on 5.56 ammo?

What is the problem this week? Everyone has been selling 5.56 in 200 round cases for months. Did it suddenly dry up? I was in the LGS last week and they had plenty.

I'm as much against that "ban" as anybody else. But if you're going to stock up on 5.56 ammo, get something besides that M855. It really isn't that good. I think there's a reason the military stopped using it. I sure wouldn't pay $1 a round for it.

its not all going to DHS, or any other Government entity.....

Roger that... the demand by the military for SS109/M855 has got to have fallen greatly with the winding down of operations in the Middle East.

I heard an ex-military "talking head" on the news talking about a massive surplus of SS109/M855 that was potentially set to start hitting the market prior this proposed ban causing the panic buying.

local walmart is out of everything but specialty. 25 bucks for 20. nope not going there. Saleswoman said everybody and thier brother has been in past couple days. I can wait for panic to ease off

This maybe out of place here but I was just reading about the new ammo shortage & remember I put this up in the 15-22 forum , yes I do have one but I mostly use it for taking my Grandson shooting these days.
I was trying to make the point that at these prices I will be spending my money on the ammo I know I will need.

I just bought 300 rd of Independence 556 at gander for around $130. they have a buy 4 boxes, get the 5th box free.

Good article.

But to the original question, the hope of stockpiling is past. The rush is on, based on what I saw last night at two WM and two Academy stores on my way home from the range.

Yes sir---if you don't have it stockpiled in your gun room by now, it's already to late.

are they trying to ban all 556 or just 62 grain 556 and up?

It is one specific round... M855 is the US designation and SS109 is the NATO designation. It has a small steel penetrator that rides atop of the lead core.

Despite the source, this is a rather well written article. When "The Huffington Post" has an article like this, I feel just a little hope!

It is certainly written by someone with at least a half a brain. Even getting that an AR-15 is a semi auto. :D

Guy's,this kind of **** isn't new. If you haven't been building up your ammo stocks over the last several years, you have no one to blame but yourself.
