Do I really need a shield?

Sounds like your already pretty well covered for CCW. Still, " The heart wants what the heart wants. " You might try seeing if you can find a used one first or even borrow one to shoot.
For myself, I was dyeing for one until I owned one. People either seem to love or dislike the shield.

As suggested, try to handle and shoot one if possible. I also have a 3913, and would definitely not replace it with a Shield. However, I've shot a Shield on two occasions and did quite well with it. It's not a bad pistol.

With the sub $400 prices online leading up to Christmas, I likely would have bought one if the $50 S&W rebate hadn't excluded it.

Everyone is different though. My wife shot the Shield yesterday and after one mag put it down a said, "I don't like it".

There's no need for a Shield if you have a full size.

I take it you are ok wearing layers of clothing throughout the year to conceal a full size handgun.

For most people that is not a reasonable option. I work inside and wearing layers of clothing is not practical especially in the summer.

My Shield rides in my pocket in all seasons and at 7 yards shoots just as tight as my full size XD 45.

I'd been Pocket Carrying the PF-9 for 4 Yrs and was looking for a replacement. With the Shield being almost the same dimensions, only 6oz heavier than the PF-9, as smooth as my G26 to shoot and the same price range as an LC9, it fit my requirements very nicely. If I didn't Pocket Carry, I might have never tried the Shield... But I did try it and I totally love the little rascal.

My Wife on the other hand, was a devout Glock hater until she tried the G26 and has been carrying that for a few Years now. When she tried my Shield, her comment was simply: "It's a very nice little pistol, but not enough to replace my little Glock.".

To each their own. As mentioned, it seems like people either Love the Shield, or are Unimpressed with it. Some are more than happy enough with just their FS, or Compact, to NOT add the Shield to their stable, while others have replaced something in their stable with the Shield and still others had added the Shield simply because it's there.

Don't just fondle one at the counter... Actually shoot one and decide it you like it enough to put 4 Benjamins on the counter. :)

Need is very subjective. Do I need a car, shoes, my pinkie toe? Not really! Do I want those things, YES. Does one need a Shield if one already has a good comfortable cc weapon?

I say if you are asking to be talked out of it then you should just buy one, carry it for a month. If you are not happy with it then sale it. You don't see many on the used market for long. If you can't afford one then don't buy it. I personally wouldn't pay over 400 out the door for one.

Second on the, didn't need one but bought one, and glad I did so.

I was in a gun store a few months ago and they had a sign over the counter that fully explains your issue....."Need Has Nothing To Do With It"

So I say if you want it, go for it and don't look back. It just felt right in my hand and after 400 plus rounds I don't regret buying one.

I'd buy another in a heartbeat if I had the money. I don't need two but I want two. One for each hand. More rounds is better right?

If need was part of the equation I wouldn't have so many .357's! Variety is one of the greatest things about guns...own at least one of everything and two of the ones you really like!;)

I carry my 9mm Shield occasionally. I know I'm probably in the minority, but it's not my favorite. Not even in my top 5. Not that it's a bad gun. It's a fine gun. Shoots well, feels ok and is very reliable. I just have a handful of carry guns I prefer. My wife likes it and the external safety. If she didn't, I'd probably sell it for a XDs 9mm.

Should you get one? that's your call. I don't think you'll be disappointed, but you may not be enamoured by it.

I had a 9mm Shield that I bought used for $350. Sold it after shooting the XDS45. After the recall the XDS trigger was total garbage. I then sold the XDS and bought a G26. For some reason I want another Shield in 9mm although I have no use for one.

Should you buy it...sure, why not? I'm sure I'll buy another one eventually even though I have no use for one at all. I'm sure this didn't help! ;)

My daily carry is a Shield 9 and I love it. BUT I've just purchased a 3914 to see how I like it and decide which one I prefer to carry daily (expecting to pick it up on Monday from my FFL). So if you want to know if you really need a Shield, I think you'll have to buy one and find out. :D

I backed into the M&P family when I found a Shield 9 at my LGS soon after it was introduced. The size and the trigger impressed me, and I have enjoyed shooting the gun so much I picked up a full sized M&P 9 recently.

I never cared for the Glock, but there are solid reasons that striker fired polymer pistols have become common.

I have enjoyed carrying and shooting the Shield, but by all means try it & others to get the one that works best for you.
