Do you carry more than one gun at a time?

Dave is Cool.

Good question, Dave, and one I'm 100% completely unqualified to answer.

I will say that I'm glad I have several guns that can fill in until the heros return.

You're awesome. You just gave us an excuse to buy more guns. :D

Yes I carry a back up. If i'm carrying a 9mm auto it's generally my 2in Model 12, or my 3in model 547. If I'm carrying a 38/357 revolver I'll carry a second snubbie in that caliber. Funny my agency refuses me the right to carry a back up, but off duty I can on my ccw. I also carry OC , a folding knife, cell phone, and extra ammo off duty. I have a long gun availible at all times also.

Dave, I would guess that they would take both guns since they have no real way of knowing whether or not you fired one or both until they get some witness statements. Also, at that point you are a suspect, so I would expect them to take any guns, knives, etc that you have on you that could be used as a weapon. Once they get some witness statements and have some time to sort things out, it is possible that they might a return a gun that they are certain wasn't used in the shooting and has no value as evidence.

I quess I can add my 2 cents. I always, when legal, have a lightweight J frame or a PM9 on my ankle. I will carry a 1911, 686, 66, 45 XD or something else on my belt when the fashion police allow it. If nothing is on my belt, I have a LCP or P3AT in my pocket. With handguns in these two positions, I can access them seated or standing. I am more concerned about access than running out of ammo. Yes, I carry reloads for at least one of the guns I am carrying.

David, it depends entirely on your department, or the one controlling the investigation.

Here I always check what had been fired and what had not, we only worried about the fired guns, but we did check, under stress folks can do things they have no memory of.

I also check all magazines, etc. that the officer has, in case they reloaded or topped off and don't recall doing so, I know a guy who dumped 30 rounds out of an MP5 and reloaded while doing a downed officer rescue, all he remembers is the downed officer's drag strap was a pain in the butt to get ahold of while wearing gloves.

I generally carry one and have one in the car. If I have to park the car for a duration, I pull the car one out and carry two. I'm paranoid that someone will get an easy gun while stealing my radio. I would have a hard time sleeping if one got stolen and was used in a crime.

At least 2, usually 3...on me, for 27 years...

To say nothing of the arsenal inside the G-ride

Past 10 years, always 1, occasionally 2...

But, I choose where and when I go now ;)

Oh, there might be something in the truck on occasion too :D:D:D

I carry two over 75% of the time, but I don't classify either as a back up gun. Either one could be primary response weapon, based upon the threat.

I've never carried a "back-up" gun, but now I'm beginning to wonder if I should.

This is a well traveled road. One question. Have you ever had to draw and fire your primary? MHO? Carrying one gun is a big enough responsibility. The average joe going about his daily business doesn't need a BUG provided he stays out of areas where he doesn't need to be. I don't think I need to elaborate on that. I carry one gun. One, maybe two spare mags. If that's not enough, sux to be me.

Nope. I figure its going to happen close and fast and if my primary CCW doesn't work then it was nice knowing you guys. That's why i invest in quality pistols and ammo. I do carry an extra mag and pepper spray.

Cheers!
