This opinion piece appeared in yesterday's Dallas Morning News.

I used to be a pro-life gun owner

As best I can tell, the author's "logic" is as follows:

1. Bad people who have guns and kill are anti-life.
2. I am a good person and am pro-life.
3. I am also a gun owner.
4. Therefore, to avoid becoming a bad person, I am going to destroy my gun.

It takes all kinds, I guess.

Because I'm a subscriber, I couldn't tell whether non-subscribers could read it or not. That's why I did a summary of her "logic". The author (a she) goes to such unusual lengths to justify abandoning her gun, I thought it was interesting in a perverse/peculiar sort of way. Here's a more detailed summary:

If she had to shoot someone in defense of her own life, she couldn't do it without becoming a bad person. Besides, she's much faster with her cell phone, which would be her weapon of choice. She might be able to shoot someone in defense of her children, but she thinks it's more likely her children would be injured or killed by her gun instead. She can't sell her gun or give it away, because it might end up in the hands of a bad person who would kill with it. She can't give it to the Dallas Police Department because of their brutality, and they'd probably use it to kill someone. Thus, she's trying to figure out how to melt it down.

Well, I hope she does it soon, as she's clearly one of those people who shouldn't own a gun.
