I have an early 945 Performance center model..I absolutely love this gun..feels better in my hand than my Gold Cup and slightly out shoots it..
with my reloads..one hole 5 round strings at 50'!!..Th Gold Cup does about the same but just a slightly larger hole...and this is off hand..

Got one - 108284. Would rather have the Novack fixed sights but I had to get the adjustible sights to get the ambidexterous safety. Paid $725 in my hands off of the auction sight that starts with gun...and ends in er...... I think I got a good deal on it

I have the blued government model with Novak sights. I shoot it more accurately than any of my other hand guns. Is there such a thing as a gun being boringly accurate? I sort of hate to admit that this gun does so well for me, because I am a revolver guy by choice. The gun has performed superbly for me, no breakdowns, no FTFs or FTEs.
I understand that Smith is phasing out its current 1911 line and replacing with a new line called the "E" series. These guns are supposed to have better triggers than their predecessors. I'm interested, especially in that I always thought that the trigger on my Smith 1911 is very good.

I purchased one of the first runs of the S&W 1911 with ser # in the mid-800 range. That gun now has over 12,000 rounds and is running great and it has worked perfectly. I have also purchased two of the blued carbon steel guns. These have had some custom work done to them but more from want than need. These two guns also have 10,000 plus rounds and have performed very well.

Own a Performance Center 945. Excellent pistol even though many people say its not a real 1911
I have the stainless fixed sight model (108282 i think). I shoot it in IDPA matches. Early on I had a couple of misfires where the firing pin didn't contact the primer. I make a conscious effort to be sure I have the grip safety firmly depressed and haven't had the problem since. I haven't kept up with round count but my guess is over 5000.

Yep. The SS Target Model. I have never been a big 1911 fan, nor owned one before this one. Its accuracy and functionality are most impressive.

Most of the older German Sigs (P220, P228, P225 etc) have internal extractors. Since they started making the slides out of Stainless steel in 2000 in the US, they have switched to an external extractor. All of my Sig P220s made in the late 90s have internal extractors. One of my P220s has over 6,000 rounds through and has never had a single malfunction! Not one! I change the recoil spring every 2,000 rounds.

Nope, not me. I had the 1911 virus about 30 years ago for a short time, but I recovered and am now immune. I do still suffer from the similar CZ-75 and clone virus though.

Four .45 acp 1911s, all Colt. A stainless Defender w/CT, a stainless, lightweight Commander w/CT (by the bed), a stainless Gold Cup, and a plain Jane blued 1911. I like the looks of the new S&W 1911 SC, and Handguns has an article on it this month. Too bad Patric Sweeney is the one who wrote it, he's too biased, downing tried and true Colt products in a lot of his articles, which makes him a poor writer and not too smart for my taste. I think he's funny when he brags that the gun "shot right out of the box and functioned flawlessly" then I looked at the MSRP of$1,369 price tag. Duhhhh! What did he expect a gun costing that much to do?

I bought the first SW1911 I saw on January 7, 2003, a standard fixed sight gun numbered to indicate there were only about 190 of them made ahead of mine.
I bought my second one, with the Bomar-style adjustable sights and wood stocks, a year later.
The guns are very solid, very well finished. But, I learned quickly that if I didn't get the grip safety depressed fully, it didn't work to unlock the firing pin lock system, allowing the gun to fire, on occasion. It happened more frequently with excercises that included fast draw from a holster from under a jacket or shirt. When my grip wasn't perfect enough to FULLY depress the grip safety EVERY SINGLE TIME, the gun didn't always fire. I tried different things, different holsters that would allow my initial grip to firmly, fully grasp the stocks on the butt of the gun, to MAKE SURE the firing pin lock was released as the grip safety was depressed, so the gun could shoot, but I never got through a full 100 round session without at least one bad grip during a drawstroke flubbing up one shot.
This can be merely annoying or it can be physically dangerous, depending on the use if the pistol and what is at stake.
I find the Colt firing pin lock system to be superior. It ALWAYS goes 'bang' when the trigger is pulled.
I find my SW1911's fine for target and sport shooting but not for serious business. Maybe with more time and new grip habits, this may change.

I bought an early one (#362) back in 2003. The 1st run of SW1911's were assembled in the Performance Center using Briley barrels and solid bushings. This changed when S&W finally got the regular production line up and running, somewhere around #2000.
I changed out the trigger with a ball bearing trigger from CC Actions, because the factory trigger (Texas Armament?) had too much vertical movement. Only other thing I've done to it is changed out the original Hogue rubber grips with Alumagrips.
This gun has been very reliable. I ran over 15k rounds through it during the 1st 3 years, most were my own 200 grain SWC reloads. No problems at all, that were not caused by my sometimes "iffy" reloads.
Almost 8 years later this gun sill runs great, accuracy is outstanding, and it looks almost new.

I own a few 1911 guns but I only shoot one of my two S&W 1911. It is the best shooter of all my guns. SKU 170261. I would sell my entire collection before that gun would leave. My daughter says she is going to have me buried with it. I figure if God needs a .45ACP, it would be that gun.
