Fair enough. Coming from a person who perpetuates headlines from the media and refuses to cite authentic sources. Doesnt seem hypocritical.

This will illustrate why "home invasion" is difficult to find stats on.

So roll the dice. It depends greatly on where one lives, and how much ( for instance in my area) cross border activity occurs.

FBI stats don't list "home invasions" because there are many various crimes that result from burglary while the home is occupied.

Snarkiness while under cover of internet is not even listed.

Basically youre telling me that anyone who claims home invasions is on the rise is basically lying. That guy who told me to google it, probably never googled it himself since obviously stats are hard to find.

If you cant find the stats, then your claims are based on anecdotal evidence or the media. Thanks for proving my point in a serious non snarky way. All that I want are some of the claims I see on this forum backed up by some type of evidence. All i ever hear is the sky is falling, if it is, show me your hand so that I can see it too.

Well, before you pat yourself on the back for the internet debating skills, note terminology of topic....but,
No, you're fine. All those things that are commonly included in what is, in vernacular, called "home invasion" to include battery, theft, rape, homocide, terroristic threat and more don't apply to you. Since the term isn't used by your reliable informational sources (same people that say the border is secure, for instance),
there's nothing to worry about or be prepared for. Life's a bowl of cherries :D carry on. Until the term is actually codified, then get one of those shower caps for your Glock.:)

Is there a chance that someone may break into my home someday?

Check.

Is there a chance that this could happen while I am in the bathroom?

Check.

Is there a chance that I could be in a walmart, or church, or mall and someone may decide to shoot the place up?

Check.

What's the difference? How is a bathroom any more paranoid than carrying in a church, or mall, or store, or driving down the highway? If you don't do it, fine, but don't belittle people who do for having a firearm within reach somewhere that you may not.

There a is a term for people that think that way: "Hypocrite".

The difference is that when I go somewhere I'm the one that goes out into the world. I go where there are thousands of people on the roads and in the streets. When I'm home there are no thousands of people driving and walking through. For me the chances of someone breaking in is about the same as a plane falling on my house or lighting hitting me. But that's where I live, your area may be different

Thank you for successfuly side stepping the issue. Now im to understand that all those items you listed are all home invasions. You should give yourself a pat on the back.

Can you provide this research?

In my area home invasions are on the rise....

Of course, being a detective for the DA's office....I don't have to look it up. ;):D

Never considered it but lots of interesting comments. More than I would expected. I have asked my wife when home alone to please lock the doors when she showers as we're out in the sticks no neighbors to hear or see a thing.

Now you got it.
Home invasion is:,http://definitions.uslegal.com/h/home-invasion/ it is the process involved in committing varied crimes.those crimes are listed in the links I posted. From fibby and Justice.

Being pedantic about terminolgy is like arguing about the difference in stocks and grips. It's a waste of time.

However, explaining terminology, which is sometimes necessary, even though the term is quite common and, by definition and usage, a very broad generalization is worthwhile, to a point.

(Violence is another example of a term that isn't a definitive crime, but is a method used in the commission of certain crimes, and usually enhances the charges)

So, the topic was "do you take your weapon into the bathroom (not "into the shower") when showering?"

Not "Is home invasion a thing that exists, and how can I insult people on a generally friendly forum of Smith & Wesson enthusiasts whom I don't know?"

Me neither, Dave. Corpus has gotten a lot worse, and since most are fuelled by meth and alcohol (nothin' wrong with afew cool ones on a hot day, or a good Bourbon on the rocks) and Lord knows what all else pills and smack, I get to sit in on interviews of gang juvies occasionally.

It depends...
Sometimes I get up early and get dressed in the bathroom, so as not to disturb my Wife. My CC pistol 'Lives' in my pants pocket, so...
If I get dressed in the bathroom, Yes...
If I don't get dressed in the bathroom, No.

Wrong. Paranoia is the irrational belief that there is an ongoing effort to cause the person harm. It's a psychiatric disorder and is so classified in ICD-10.
And its not irrational? I guaranty over 60% of the US wod agree it irrational. Thanks for adding evidence to my case!

Sometimes - not because I am paranoid, but because I just want to stare at it and do a little bonding. I am sure there're plenty of you out there that know what I am talking about. :-)

Yes I do. I wear my CC from the time I get up till I lay it next to the bed and go to sleep.

Before showering I collect clean clothes and take them into the bathroom and hang them on a rack and then disrobe, shower and dress. When I undress I but my pistol and the holster in a drawer close to the shower door and then shower . Its just a mater of convenience to me, where else would I put it?

Maybe a better question would be where do you leave yours if you don't take it into the shower ? Is it safely LOCKED in your gun safe ? Laying on the bedroom dresser, in a dresser drawer, night stand, kitchen table ?? Where ?

I live in a rural area with nearest neighbors over 1/2 mile away and there have been break-ins during the day .

I am not quite that paranoid yet. In a nearby room yes, in the shower, bathroom, or spa, no.

Thats kinda what paranoid means...

Huh????
Who, What ???
Oh my cow pie!

Symptoms of paranoia and paranoid disorders include intense and
irrational mistrust or suspicion, which can bring on sense of rage,
hatred, and betrayal. Some people suffering from paranoid personality
may have a high capacity to annoy or enrage others because of rigid
and maladaptive behavior. Some identifiable beliefs and actions of
paranoid-related disorders include mistrust, taking offense easily,
difficulty with forgiveness, defensive attitude in response to imagined
criticism, preoccupation with hidden motives, fear of being deceived or
taken advantage of, inability to relax, argumentative, abrupt,
stubborn, self-righteous, and perfectionistic.

I live in Florida and I don't listen to media and headlines (not a sheep) I listen to people in thriving neighborhoods and the victims they have become.

I will when I get something besides a blues revolver. if I hear my family screaming I wanna 've able to come out armed.

Unfortunately, these kind of discussions and bickering back of forth between gun owners and CCW crowd happens a lot on this board regarding, calibers, carrying in the pipe or not, OC vs CC and all kinds of other minuscule issues...

It all comes to this;
Carrying a gun on you or within your immediate reach is done only for one reason, stopping a threat towards yourself and/or your loved ones!

Now, let's imagine that you may be at the receiving end of a life threatening situation in 100 circumstances (places) while you are;

- Driving
- Walking
- Jogging
- Sun bathing
- Picnicking
- Biking
- Swimming
- Scuba diving / snorkeling
- Boating
- Camping
- At a gym
- At bus stop
- At office
- At school
- At Church
- At Shopping Mall
- At a restaurant
- At a wedding reception
- At home
- At backyard
- At garage
- At drugstore
- At home while sleeping
- At home while taking a shower
- At home while watering your plants
- At home while gardening/ planting new flowers
- At home while cooking
........... and so on and so on.

You've got the idea...

Now let's imagine these places and situations adds up to 100 and that's it!

Now some gun owners may want to be ready 100% of the time and they choose to carry their guns even in a ziplock bag even while they are scuba diving, while somebody else think 99% safety is enough and they take his/her gun everywhere, except while they are scuba diving.

But also somebody else may say; hey while scuba diving, working out in the gym and also while I am in Sauna I won't be carrying because I think being 97% of the time being ready is enough safety for me.

Who we are to tease of those who wants to be ready 100% or 97% of the time or decide which one of them is doing right and which one is wrong?

We always talk about carrying a gun being a personal choice and then we expect every gun carrying person do the same thing like us... And if they don't we tease them or criticize them for being paranoid or wrong.

You take it with you to the shower? Good for you...

You don't take it with you to the shower? Good for you too..

No matter what you do, thank you for being a gun owner and a CCW member of our society!
