Hi, I know you are not supposed to dry fire. But what do you do when you are done for the day. The mag holds the bolt open after your last round. You take out the mag and release the bolt. Do you just leave the gun ready to fire or do you dry fire it? The gun is new to me and I am mainly a pistol guy, so I may be missing something completely. Thanks for any help.

i think we are confusing terms, bolt closed would mean you cannot see your ejector hook. you should be seeing silver, not black. like so:

Move safety selector from fire to safe BEFORE closing the bolt, not afterwards.

to sum up: 1. fire last round, 2. move to safe, 3. close bolt.

It's fine to leave the gun charged. If you feel like you want to leave it with the hammer down, just pull the charging handle back slowly. You'll feel a change about 3/4 of the way back when the bolt touches the cocked hammer. Hold the bolt there, pull the trigger, and slowly let the bolt slide closed.

The gun will not go back to safe if you do this, FYI. Some people like to have the gun on safe at all times and will leave the gun charged, some people like to take the energy out of the springs and lower the hammer.

Ahh didn't know you could do that, that's probably the reason they say not to force the safety.

IT REALLY IS THAT SIMPLE ; FOLKS

or.........

push back pin out, open the rifle up, hold finger on the hammer and pull the trigger. let the hammer down real easy then close it back up. also while open you can inspect things after your outing.
