Dry Firing

Even though it's ok to dry-fire the Sigma 9 you don't have to to field strip and reassemble. The manual says slide the slide back 1/8 inch but the picture shows about 1/2 inch which will cock it. Use JUST 1/8 inch,drop the latch and the slide will release. Clean, oil and reassemble the slide using your palm easing on the muzzle just till it clicks once and you'll never have to cock and dry-fire to clean. Just repeated about 20 times and never was it cocked, no dry-fires. Just my 2 cents.

I think i get what your saying, but if it's already cocked before you pull the slide back the 1/8in it will have to be dry fired to release it off the frame.

Now I made dummy rounds to dry fire. They are normal FMJs with the powder and primer removed and a piece of rubber inserted and glued in place of the primer.

I know what ya saying J. When i'm thru firing and the empty mag locks the slide open, i drop the mag, release the slide and dry fire before bringing it inside to clean. This is when you don't have to cock to field strip and clean. No dry fire to field strip. Same difference i guess.

I gotcha, but as keeping up with safety and staying in the habit. I always rack the slide to be 100% on a cleared chamber just before stripping.

I gotcha. After ya rack it and dry fire it you field strip it. This is where you don't have to cock it again to field strip it. You can't field strip a cocked pistol.

Sorry, i guess i worded it wrong. The manual says pull back 1/8 in, but the pic shows about 1/2 in which will cock it and prevent field strip. To reassemble i just ease the slide on the frame till it clicks on instead of racking it so i don't have to dry fire it again.

Regardless, every time I pickup a firearm, I check it see if it's loaded. Nature of the beast I guess, have to dryfire sometime.

Just FYI, when you are attempting to field strip the sigma and you retract the slide a little too far it will cock the gun(as you know). At this point if you have the slide release engaged and you pull the trigger it will release the slide and propel it forward (with force from the striker and striker spring) off the frame. However I have heard and read multiple reports recently of this breaking the striker off in the gun, so I would refrain from doing this. If you cock the gun while attempting to field strip it, you should release the slide release latch and re rack the slide fully, then dry fire the gun and start all over.
