Early Preparations For Isaac.

4 cans of propane for the stove, lanterns and flashlights (all LED and enough AA and AAA batteries for a months).

I was mostly "prepared" before the great ice storm of 2008, but afterword I made more preparations. I knew that I had some small propane cylinders for the camp stove, lantern and heater, and some oil for the old wick lamps, but after cleaning out the garage this week, apparently I had several caches of both. How much of that kind of stuff do you have to have before they start talking bad about you on the news when the Haz-Mat team has to respond to your garage?

I HATE hurricane season. As a proud sailor in the United States Navy we have the joy of going in after the hurricanes have done their damage and helping the locals. Food, water, medical attention etc. etc. etc. I don't mind that at all. What I dislike is when a hurricane is heading our way we pack up and run. Not a problem aside from the fact my wife and child are left behind. Of course I send them home to the great state of Alabama but, it sure does weigh heavy on my mind how my family is doing. I am sure any Navy guys who have ever had the joy of a SORTIE can relate.

I just looked at the latest trajectory. Skirts Pensacola/Ft. Walton/Destin (where I will be for a gun show this weekend) hits Mobile/ Pascagoula area Tuesday night, and then my area sometime late Tuesday night/ early Wednesday morning. I'll be back home late Sunday afternoon so I should miss most of this stuff while I'm there. Predicted winds at 85 mph at landfall. This could change as the storm hits the very warm waters of the Gulf. If predictions are right I predict damage similar to Frederic in 1979. It was nothing like Camille or Katrina as it took only a couple of days to get everything going again here. Still, nobody know exactly where this storm will go. I can be a rain and wind event if you're on the west side of it or lots more rain and lots of tornadoes if you're on the east side of it. I'm pretty much prepared except for battening down a few hatches which I will do before I go to the gunshow in Pensacola. I will monitor any evacuation traffic that could result from this storm as it may alter my plans for the weekend.

Heck, steer that storm towards Texas, we need some rain. The worst trouble I ever got into was when my Uncle said "Lets go to Corpus Christi and see what a hurricane looks like". My brothers and I loaded up some ice chest, raided the panty, and left a note for my mom and dad telling them where we went!! This was in the early 70's, we had fun and man our butts got whipped good when we got home!! Even our Uncle got a whoppin!!

Thanks Max, hold off on the bottle for now. (unless you really need to get rid of it in which case I'll gladly take it off your hands) I've got plenty and am going after a little more when Jr. gets off work. The latest trajectory shows the storm tracking tracking a little farther east but as I said earlier, nobody knows where it's going to wind up or how strong it will be. I'm going to continue to prepare. Now, where did I put those "YOU LOOT WE SHOOT!" signs?

Well it looks (as of the latest) that it has shifted a bit West and is on a track for Alabama.

Course it is way to early but the scary thing is, it is tracking like Charley did and that sucker took a hard right turn smack into us.

Was the only storm that really scared me, right at the last minute.

Andrew I figured the entire State was going to be gone.

The track on this thing keeps shifting more and more to the west. Now it's supposed to hit NOLA dead on ala Katrina. Which is sort of OK for me, since my son, daughter in law, and grandson will be a bit better off over in Baldwin County. OTOH, my DMAT team is on call for this month, and if this turns out to be anything I could be taking a trip.

Still too early to predict for sure. It might turn out to be nothing, but that's not the way to bet.

just looked at weather underground and the track is still shifting west Think I'll go up to Lowes after mass and "buy" a chainsaw and some two stroke oil just in case
Got plenty of scotch, generator works, got water, etc. If it does get this far west . Just remember-it ain't labor day if there ain't no hurricane!!!
