Picked up a 10 pack of 50 at an estate sale yesterday. Last Eley ammo I had was years ago..blue plastic box lead HPs. I really never shot handgun or rifle 22 target. What are the Tenex for?..Rifle or pistol target shooting? Cost a bit more than the CCI SV I bought the other day to try in my M-41s. 12 cents each for the Eley...which I am pretty certain is cheap. If made for rifle I do have a couple of DCM 513Ts and just got an older 521T. I'd really like to see how the old 512s shoot with good ammo! might have to get my numb from the neck up rifle shooting griend do some of the shooting with the rifles..Dare not to put a handgun in his hands though. LOL

Tenex is great stuff for rifle or pistol.

Several years ago when Tenex was around $20 a box, I bought several thousand rounds at an estate auction for about $5 a box. I know the other bidders thought I was nut for paying $5 per box for 22LR, but I was grinning all the way to the range. I still have a few boxes of it left.

It was the top of the line for Eley but, like anything else, varies from lot to lot, and your accuracy requirements in YOUR gun(s). Should be fine for rats at the dump!

There are several types of Tenex .22s. If it doesn't say anything, it is probably for rifle use. Of course, it would also work in any handgun. My experience is that unless you are already a top-flight competitive shooter, your results from using Tenex in either a rifle or pistol won't be much, if any, better than if you used CCI standard velocity. Long ago (1960s) I was a serious competitive rifle shooter (50' gallery using a Winchester 52B), and I tested many ammo brands, including all the match ammo available at that time, from Tenex, Western, Remington, and Lapua. In that rifle, I got my best results when using ordinary CCI SV. Remington SV was also pretty good.

The red box Ely Tenex is some of the most accurate .22LR on the planet in a good target rifle. Lots vary from real good to fantastically good. If the stuff hasn't been stored properly, i.e. consistently in a cool, temp controlled environment, groups may be as much at 2X bigger than they would have been. OP hope it was well taken care of before you got it.

If it's this stuff, you made a great score. That's Eley's top shelf stuff. Great target ammo. Don't waste it plinking or shootin' cans! I'm down to my last 4 boxes....

True Tenex is a solid point not HP! Pics would help.
Tenex is usually in a red box not blue. FWIW

I missed where he said it was in a blue box. I had to go back and reread. It sounds like he might have Eley Team and not Tenex. Still good ammo though, just not Tenex level.

The thing about Tenex is the consistancy. I've had some rifles that should various loads good, but the Tenex was normally at the top and didn't exhibit the flyers I'd get with the various cheaper rounds. I could count on it to shoot great out of 54 Anschutz's, Remington 40x's, Winchester 52's, etc. Wolf Gold used to be great stuff as well, almost as good as Tenex, but a lot cheaper.

If it is Tenex for real, then it would be a waste of very good ammo in the rifles and pistol he mentioned I use Tenex in a Winchester 52E, it shoots great in it. Not so well in my 52D.

Shoots almost as well in my 1813Anschutz and 52 D Winchester as my Russian Olymp.

More Olympic gold medals are won with Tenex than all others combined....just my opinion however, there is a consensus that when it is all on the line Tenex is most often the winner.

The bnlue box stuff was quite a few years ago. This is the Red box. The ammo was stored inside an AC house. The blue box stuff was lead HPs and it was as accurate as anything I had shot at the time. I had a Mossberg target rifle that was just too clubby for my intended purpose. Took the sights off... cut it down and slimmed the stock some. Made a great feeling shooter but with the Redfield 6X on it wow..a great squirrel rifle. It shot that Eley blue box stuff great and I considered it the best skwerl shooter I ever had. When I moved here from Md I gave it to one of the grandkids. I'm gonna try the Tenex in my 41s. I've never seen that blue box HP stuff in years...although I may have a box of it in the stash of stuff I have

The Tenex line is made for both but the pistol specific ammo is clearly marked "pistol" or "pistol match" on the box. That's not to say all tenex ammo won't work in a pistol too but they do have pistol specific if if ammo.

Eley has about 10 or 12 different lines, I tried several and found the less expansive "Club" ammo worked sell enough cor my guns because they are just normal .22 rifles, nothing made for benchrest, biathlon or target work.

Scoring any Eley ammo for a low price is always a score but Tenex @ $6.00 A box is very good cor sure. Tenex ammo runs between $20 and $25/box today...

I never shot much NRA Bullseye pistol matches, but was a very serious NRA 3&4 position shooter rifleman.

Used Tenex to win the State Outdoor Prone Match in Missoula 2009, shot in the rain and I only dropped 2 points because of the rain. 1598/1600.

Yes, Tenex performs !!

If you or your 41's don't like it let me know and would be interested in obtaining some more.

Guess I should have noted the details on the box but just shot the half box of some sort of Tenex( solid lead) the other day in my Supermatic Citation. On same target shot about 50 rounds of CCI standard velocity 22's. Don't remember when or where the Tenex came from but had a $4 price on box, somehow I remembered that.
BTW, local wal marts have been getting CCI standard velocity 22's just about every week.
