There is no such thing as "Best" ammunition! You must express what qualitative factor you desire it to be "best" at. Do you mean Velocity, Energy, Accuracy, Bullet Expansion, Penetration in whatever the medium? How do you want it to be "best"??

Every time someone starts one of these threads it degenerates into nothing more than "I like xxxx ammunition the best posts within a very few responses ad infinitum. No one cares what you like, and that is of no importance to the question in any way! None of these threads has ever settled what the "best" is for any caliber or application, nor can they ever. They ultimately are just a waste of bandwidth for the forum, and not even particularly entertaining for the most part.

If you want to know what members "Favorite" caliber, brand, bullet weight, etc, then ask that, even ask for an explanation of their response, not a question that cannot be answered! :(:(:(

What we really need to concentrate on is new pertinent content such as:
Date my gun, what’s for dinner, and what music do you listen to.

Vague, mindless threads last forever. If you ask a specific, technical question, the thread dies almost immediately. If an answer requires an actual numerical measurement, forget it.

I don't even bother read the ..."what is the best ammo" post anymore ...
There is no way to answer that one ...but lets see ...

The best ammo is paid for and in your shooting box .

The best ammo is what you can buy .

The best ammo is 100% reliable and reasonably accurate .

The subject does give us Conversation Fodder that ain't political !

I'm thinking that a better question, especially for newcomers, might be:
'What ammo should I stay away from?'

The list of unrecommended ammo is much shorter than favorite ammo and could save someone some money and headaches. :D

I don’t get it. Why is this a problem? Someone is asking the question because he’d like some advice on purchasing ammo. What that person wants to know is, what do you use. What have you had good results with. I don’t think they are looking for a definitive answer on what is best. There’s no answer to that. As mentioned earlier, there are some silly topics on here sometimes. Members have no problem responding to those. Granted it’s the lounge where anything goes. Maybe we need a “ questions some people will take offense to” forum.

It’s not a problem. Some people like to get grumpy over little things.

This forum is well known for the wealth of knowledge in many different areas.

Some of us appreciate those that share their knowledge, feelings, opinions, and professional experience.

There are decades and decades of knowledge here that should be shared.

I’m sure that those members that are new or less experienced appreciate it too.

The concept of the "best" is always changing. The ammo you buy today is different from the same last year or next year. The manufacturers are always changing their designs...improving them...using new technologies to manufacture them...different propellant blends, etc. What's new today will be next year's also-ran and there will be a new "best" to replace it.

Even with the latest "best"...the differences may be scientifically measurable but with little to no practical differences between them.

Who cares? Don't read the thread. I skip a lot of threads that have no interest to me, and I bet most people do too.

Are there a lot of best ammo threads? Yep. Some I post in, some I don't, and others I read to learn about different brands/types that I haven't thought of or have dismissed in the past.

As long as one adheres to the rules and the TOS one can post what they wish.

I certainly do.

As mentioned above, the forum architecture gives us a powerful tool that enables us to scroll past threads/posts that bruise our tender sensibilities.

If you want to really get bored read the computer telling you the best 10 cities in the US to retire in, the best states in the US to retire in and this list changes every month with every article. At least here you get the benefit of someone's experience and can learn something useful.

At one time it was easy to pick the best. Especially when it was really Federal, Remington and Winchester as your choice.

Now fifty plus companies are making .38 Special as an example and some companies are located in somebody's garage or workshop.
