Ever given away a S&W?

Two....a 4" 19 about 20 years ago to a friend who moved to a sketchy part of Venice, Ca. Another time I gave a heavy barreled model 10 to a friend for Christmas. The 10 I regret since I don't talk really talk to him anymore...:(

I gave (without permission) a High Standard Double Nine .22 to a tow truck driver that impounded my car for overtime parking. It was there when I parked and locked it but gone when I picked it up at the tow lot.

A friend of mine and former roommate at Auburn gave me a 2nd Model .44 Special. I later gave it to another Auburn student, a younger friend of mine. He took it with him when he joined the Army.

If family counts, I have given 6 to my daughters and son-in-laws. When you care enough to give the very best... :)

My father had given me one of a matching pair of S&W 469s. The one he got in about 83'. THe other he got in about 90' he had given the 2nd one to my brother. They were both considered family guns. I lost my father 2 months ago. Last month i gave my S&W 469 to the man my sister had just married.( brother in law) It was our way of welcoming him to the family and i know my father would have wanted it.
GL and have fun

The wife of a friend of mine was carrying S&W M&P handejector in 32-20 with a 6 inch barrel in her purse for protection. I gave her an old M-36 that had had a lot of carry use, now the straps on her purse won't break. My brother was interested in 45 acp so I gave him Dads old 1943 colt 1911A1 and a M-1917 S&W to keep it company. I've loaned out a few that turned out to be very long term loans.

Gave to my son

I gave A Mod. 36 NO DASH (Chief Special) to my son.
He Returned after a tour on the U.S.S. Lincoln.
He made Chief the week after.
I Had the Navy Anchor engraved on the side plate and His Initials on the back strap.
Kind of fitting for the occasion I thought. For our special Chief.
He will cherish it for ever.
His son will too.

I gave a nephew my 1st favorite S&W 686 L-Frame 4" no dash which I babied, to keep as a family heirloom in my memory. Lol!

At the next family function he disappointed me, by telling me he sold it, to buy a Sig Sauer P226 Blaclwater 9mm.

I won't do that again.

I gave both of my sons an airweight J frame 38 special revolver to carry as back up guns. Both bought their own full size pistols.
Once, back many, many years ago, I had a gun dealer that I did lots of business with give me a beautiful S&W model 19-3 simply because I had done so much business with him over the years. I still have that revolver today. The dealer died a few years ago and the business is really in bad shape. Evidently his son didn't have good business skills.

Smithhound, that was a beautiful thing to do!

I've never given a gun away, but have done a few gun trades where I've felt like I had given them away afterwards (LOL)!

When my daughter comes of age and is mature enough, I plan to make sure she is well equipped to enter the world. Next purchase is another 642 for the wife.

Then will think about the kids.

2 Smiths and a Savage

Well, I gave my wife a 642 LadySmith for a ccw, the one with the soft case, and a 65-6 3" for a pistol class she took with Insights. The one that really tickled me wasn't a Smith, but I gave my Priest a Savage Model 10 in .308 for a deer rifle. He's a real good friend, and was using a tired old Marlin lever gun and he needed something better. He killed 3 deer with it in 6 minutes. Lotsa deer here in Virginia. I had it inscribed "Father Hat Trick." OD

i purchased my first S&W in 1975...a M10 snub...i was 21...carried it off duty...when my son turned 21 i gave it to him

Last year gave the 2 boys 637-2's, the year before model 63 winchesters, the year before that model 62A winchesters, before that Ruger mark 3's. This year cash as one boy is building a rifle and the younger has gotten involved with Ruger target shooting at his gun club.

Several - but until recently I was more a Colt guy. ;)

But this year I have given two of my guns to new shooters or outdoorsmen to get them started and get and keep new young and older guys (and girls too) coming into the sport.

It is something I have done for some time really. Not just this year. Heck when I had to sponsor closest to the hole golf prizes I generally gave a shotgun. So guys tried harder LOL!

This year I gave a shotgun to one of my younger best buddy's who is a heck of an engineer and a super car buff. But his wife doesnt like guns - you know the story. I took him clays shooting and then gave him a shotgun before dove season and took him hunting too. His wife relented and he also bought a new lever gun and a new Beretta 9mm pistol. He also joined the NRA. He is shopping for a safe too. So he is coming along.

His Dad had died of cancer this year, but his Dad told me that one of the best things that had happened to him was that I got his son shooting. Those old US Air Force guys are like that ;). And it helped with the buds wife too.

I also took my landscape mans 2 sons on a duck hunt too. They are 14 and 15 year olds. They thought it was GREAT. I let them fire a couple of rounds each with me right there of course. Ear to ear smiles. So for Christmas they received an older Remington 870 pump shotgun in walnut and blued steel in top notch shape from my safe. They got the shotgun, but their Dad is "holding" the gun until I can get them to the shotgun range and until they can do some more learning. I am pretty sure they will be shooters and possibly hunters too.

It is not a lot, but it is moving the ball in the right direction.

All of us may need it now more than ever before.

Merry Christmas to all of you !

Of course:
Wife
Sons
Daughter
Too many to mention or even remember. The one that stands out was a gift to one of my sons many years back (I think it was the year he turned 22). I gave him my very first Highway Patrolman. It was a standard HP except that it had gone back to S&W to have the trigger worked on - not repairs, just smoothing up and the installation of a Target Trigger. The trigger on that gun moves like greased glass on glass. Smoothest firing S&W I've ever owned. He still lets me shoot it now and then. I get a twinge whenever I see it, but I know it is in and will remain in good hands.

Next year I plan to give a Victory Model to a friend's son who I have been teaching to shoot well. He's a great kid and loves to come over just to look at my collection and talk Smiths.
The revolver in question has been reblued, but it was in a shipment to the Oakland Navy Yard on August 9, 1943 (so says Roy's letter). It is a great little shooter and I think he will appreciate it.
