Everyone in S Texas ready for Beryl?

The rain missed San Antonio and the Hill Country. We were looking forward to several inches of rain to break the drought, but no such luck.

My son lives in Houston - his power is out but his cell phone is working ???

Well Galveston did that jog to the East.
Pealed most of the Vinal siding off the house(been wanting to replace with Hadrie plank anyway) and most of the soffits.

Windows and roof held.
Yards all around are a complete mess.
Sand dunes gone.

Power out on the island likely for days.
I will NEVER ride out another one...heavy pucker factor
at it's peak.
Only about 8-9 inches of water under the house.

Power still out at my Piney Woods place.
Hooked to my Daughters just east of Austin.

Wow. Sounds pretty scary. Glad to hear you're OK.

When the lines are downed there isn't much they can do. Might start replacing these with underground lines.

When Frances and Jeanne ran over my house in 2004, power was out twice for a while. Since then, the power company has made a concentrated effort to hurricane-proof the grid, if such a thing is possible. Wood power poles replaced with concrete. Ongoing effort to cut back/remove tree that can interfere with the lines. Wire separators installed, etc. Last few hurricanes/tropical storms the power, in my area at least, has hardly blinked. I've had a portable generator since 2004 and have only used it in '04 and one other time since.

Pictures on TV showed a long road with major power towers on the right that looked OK, but on the left was a long line of what looked like wooden poles that had all fallen over.

I've moved 3 times in the 45 years since coming to Florida. Underground utilities in the 1st location, lost power once that taught me to get rid of the deep freezer. House got totalled 6 months after I moved into the city of Kissimmee. When Charley hit in 2004 even though my previous house was totalled, I lost 4 shingles. On the other side of the "concrete landscape wall" power pole utilities were out for 2 weeks, gens going 24/7. We lost power for 3 hours, underground utilities. 15 years ago I moved over to St Cloud. On top of needing underground utilities I checked the elevation. I'm at 78.25" above sea level. Either my house or the house next door are the highest out of 375. When the torrents drain off my driveway they can go either way to a drain.
No preparation can out think Nature. We all react.
Burns my *** every time the news/politicians/emergency planners give assurance: "We'll keep you safe!"
Too bad we can't hold them to their word, which is worth nothing. Joe

I was going to ask but I can ask you maybe: my sister & BIL live near San Antonio in Floresville. I have tried to contact her, but she's older, maybe 75, so I'm wondering about any outages over there. Maybe she just doesn't hear her phone or her signal is screwy again. I hope everyone's power will be on soon. I can't imagine no A/C in that part of USA. It's cooled off up here in PA today, for now.
