I have had a 640–3 for three or four years now. May have been a PD turn-in since it came with the original box, but showed a little bit of wear and tear. Looks like it was gone through because the carryup, and lock up are perfect on it. It bothers me, though that that huge side plate is sitting there with no S&W logo on it. Understand, it would be non-standard so the mothership probably wouldn't even think about doing it. That said, I am not sure how much elective work they are doing nowadays anyway. There are a lot of places out there now with pricey and sophisticated CNC machines. Does anyone know of a place or a Smith who does this kind of (probably) laser etching on steel? Photo isn't my 640 but it looks exactly the same.
