Watching the Funeral for a Fallen Officer right now on TV. This makes 4 Fallen in about 6 years in my Geographic area. Three Borough and a State Trooper. One was my Veterinarian and a part time Officer in my Municipality. So dangerous of a job right now with the Druggies here in the Rust Belt.

Praying for his family and his department. We've lost too many in recent years. Several LEO's are on this board (retired and working). I haven't quite made it to retirement, but things have changed quite a bit since I started.

I witnessed two shot down right in front of me during seperate gun fights and the 43rd anniversary of one is coming up this Sunday. It’s sad that so many are still falling, I went to many funerals during my 30 years.

The parole board is letting out a lot of people who shouldn’t be paroled because the state wants to save money.

For years I’ve heard people say that things aren’t like they used to be and that being a cop is an increasingly dangerous job. I used to not agree, but my opinion has changed recently. I’ve seen a definite uptick in violence in my and surrounding jurisdictions. One of the guys I trained when I was a FTO was shot last week. Thankfully his vest stopped the round and he was able to return fire and put his attacker down.

I stood along his funeral procession twice, once in the morning when they escorted him from the funeral home to the church and in the evening when they escorted him to the cemetery. I cried both times and all during the televised service. My wife remembered him from the high school and my son is friends with his cousin. This is the second Officer killed within the past 6 years in my area . Officer Dereck Kotecki Oct 12 2011 Lower Burrell PD and now Officer Brian Shaw New Kensington PD.

When I started in March 1973, we were reeling from the assassinations of Police Officers in NY, NJ & CA. Six month later we had 2 in JC on the same day, 5 more before I retired.

I don't think times are worse today, but we are reverting to a terrible time, as we experienced in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Exacerbating this is the slanted media coverage and easy access social media being used by haters. Our moral compass is sorely in need of correction.

Don't forget the twp Border Patrolmen killed last week. The news said their heads seemed to have been bashed in with rocks.

This LEO shooting happened recently in the eastern part of PA, luckily the Trooper did not die, mostly due to his own resourcefulness and assistance of his partner in getting a tourniquet on his leg wound. He has had several surgeries and is now on the road to recovery. They have organized a card drive, so if anyone wants to invest $.49 it would be appreciated by the PSP community.

P.S. In the gunfight that ensued during the traffic stop the troopers did manage to wound the perp as well.

A Texas DPS trooper was also murdered last week. The assailant is in custody. Can't say much more here, but he's a GOOD candidate for the needle...

And judging from his photo and record, he's a very good argment for the death penalty.
