Faulkner's new adventure.

There is not much dignity left in a hospital after a day or two. When I developed a DVT (clot) after a stay and got put back in, I was not allowed to get out of the bed for 31 hours after I checked in. I was already used to pissing in the jug, so that was ok, and I was able to sit on the side of the bed to do that. I drew the line at dumping in a bed pan and having someone wiping my furry backside. The nurse and I came to a state of forced neutrality, but it had the potential to be a new low in personal dignity until then.

Sorry about the hog and dog. I gave up riding about 27 years ago. Around here, the troopers call M/Cs "donorcycles". No thanks.
 
Good job, Faulkner- I know you'd of rather not had this happen, but hey, at least you got a good story and a new bike out of it. I just hope the pains are only temporary, and the bike works out better than the last one. Keep on truckin'!
 
Glad that you are OK, rides are replaceable. My nurse had the sense to fill me full of demorall before telling me I needed a catheter. I said "sure no problems".
 
BTW- Be thankful you avoided the catheter.

I stacked a bike pretty good when I was 17, racing some buddies. Broke my pelvis in two places. They noticed blood in the urine, so automatic catheterization.

Ok, bad, but not the worst...

One of my buds is visiting me and while we're BS'ing, he just kind of idly sees the bag hanging off the bottom rail of the bed, and sort of just pokes it with his foot, not having any idea what it was.

The nurse told me the doctor had authorized morphine if I needed it. I was never in any pain so I always declined but I suspect had I accepted it I may have woken up with a catheter.
 
However, in the end: YOU WERE RIGHT!!!!:cool::cool:


You told your wife you were OK.

You told the doctors you were OK.

They wasted $20K only to prove you were RIGHT.....................

And everyone wonders why medical costs are sky high.....:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Faulkner ... When faced with the prospect of a catheter, you could have politely stated, "Ma'am, that there is a one way street. Exit only, no entrance."
 
Well, a month has passed and I have improved to about 75% voice capability. I'm in pretty good shape at normal conversational volume level but I still can't get much more volume. Doctor advises it will still be another 6 to 8 weeks before I return to 90%.

A month ago I tried to give our well trained border collie instructions and she ignored me. My voice is more recognizable now and I've acquired enough volume that she's back to following my commands, but that was kind of a weird experiance.

Back in 1971 I was returning to my ship in San Diego driving thru LA in a VW Beetle. An illegal alien driving an old Pontiac spun out in front of me & I T-boned him right at 60 mph. I ended up in UCLA Emergency with a concussion, broken left radius & ulna (compound fractures, clean as they had been sawed), chipped knee cap & lots of facial skin damage from my flopping around inside the bug even with seat belts. My wife showed up 4 or 5 hours later as I was laying on a gurney waiting for a room. The arm had been suspended in lieu of a cast & my right eye was out of commission for a while, so I wasn't about to go anywhere. The IV was doing its thing & my bladder needed to be emptied bad, so I started telling everyone within hearing range that I had to go, right now! I remember a good looking nurse holding what looked like a small jar in one hand & my you-know-what in the other telling me to "go ahead, its all right." Because of my limited vision at the time I was sure that that small jar was too small & apparently (according to wifey) was arguing loudly with the nurse that I had to go bad & I would overflow that little jar...... Well, she won out as I just couldn't hold it any longer. Funny thing was, I let loose like 14 race horses but that little jar held it all.
 
I have followed this with interest.
I first had thoughts of this ol boy is going to be taught a lesson in obedience---that quickly turned to repentance---no one should be taught a lesson thataway.
Glad you are fine---tell the misses that I am proud she dug her heels in.
I admire you for getting back on the horse again. I rode also but a city the size of Houston and Houston driving in itself talked me out of it---lesson learned the hard way and the road rash to prove it.
If'n I had lived in the country I would still be riding.
Son, you are so lucky---I am sure you have thanked your maker for his grace and mercy, if not, do it soon and often.

I loved the whole episode, especially the good ending....Sorry about the dog, they seem to have a problem with MC. As do some auto drivers. Having been in ICU for about a month one time I can only guess what it is like if you are conscious. In my case all those in-dignities were out of my seeing or hearing....About a month ago on a rare nice warm late autumn day a old time buddy came by the old cop hang out gun shop with one of his 6 Harley's it was beautiful.. He said take it for a ride......No way not now. At my age motorcycles are just a fond memory, but I'll admit I was tempted....I always thought the Ozarks would be a great place for casual riding. IF IT WASN'T FOR THE LOCALS IN CARS OR WORSE TRUCKS.......Glad all is well stay reasonably safe..O' My stay in ICU wasn't from a MC it was an airplane...Yep I was lucky.... The Ozarks will be nice this spring have you. been to Eureka Springs? Lot of hills but neat place.....

Yep, many times. Eureka Springs is a great motorcycle destination because it's nestled in a really beautiful part of the Ozarks. No matter which direction you ride from Eureka Springs it's good scenary.

One of my favorite stretches of road is Highway 187 north out of Eureka Springs to the village of Beaver. I love riding across the one lane suspension bridge across the White River as you enter into the village.

6. The hospital open back gowns are for the enjoyment of the nurses. Don't be surprised if photos of your backside is on the nurses' bulletin board in their break area.
 
I made a big mistake. I've been thinking about buying a small bike, maybe around 350cc. I haven't owned a bike since when I was stationed in East Africa in the '60s. It was a Suzuki X6 Hustler, 250 cc.
Well, I made the mistake of letting Mary read your post. Not much chance I'll ever get to see a motorcycle of any kind now. :(:(
 
There are somethings women never really understand. Though often they say they do, they really don't.....They say men are actually just grown up boys...Actually men will always be boys at heart, wouldn't want it any other way......Some want us to grow up..Who then would fight the wars, buy motorcycles, buy things we can't afford, etc, etc The world economy needs us. Look at all the things that we buy. Truly our desire to remain about 21 keeps the economy running.........Toys for Boys many innovations have come about because of our need to stay young at heart..

You know, my wife and I have had similar discussions in the past. Fact is a man takes chances in life every day. Whether it's riding a motorcycle, driving a car to work in morning traffic, hunting out of a deer stand or fishing out of a boat, running a chainsaw to cut some firewood, changing a flat on your own car, visiting the local shooting range, or mowing the yard. Stuff can happen and it's been that way all through the ages. I've never been one to sit home and say, "man, I wished I'd done that."
 
Oh yeah, really glad you came out of it OK. I dumped my Suzuki twice in Eritrea. The first time I was negotiating a series of switchbacks when I hit an oil slick. Somehow avoided going over the edge which was several hundred feet. Luckily the oil prevented me from abrading my leg too badly but it sure ruined a good pair of jeans. The bike came out of it pretty well, some slight paint damage and a slightly bent foot rest.
 
Eureka Springs every body should go there at least once.. However be prepared to walk up hill half of the time..Some great old hotels renovated and good music in some of them.....Great food if you stay away from the stands...A great outdoor show in the evening ,biblical in outlook and well attended....I forget the name of the famous hotel on the hill that has been specialized in TV shows for years..The restaurant is out of the 1920's you can almost feel the ghost of the upper crust that used to travel there for the healing waters.Neat Place
