Been looking at one of these for sometime. Love my 686; but this followed me home. Some old style grips with Custom Inserts sure dressed it up. Looks right in Bianchi Leather. 180gr.Buffalo Bores should make for a good hiking load for Blackie protection. Yeah I like it!

Fell for a GP100

Nothing wrong with that! I have several Rugers in my collection as well. ;)
Nice piece and I hope it serves you well! :)

Great gun and very nice looking rig! I've had several GP100's and never regretted it--only regretted trading or selling them. My last was a 3" with sycamore inlays. Very sweet but opted for a smaller version in the sp101. You'll enjoy the Gp--they are "tanks"--you just can't hurt them.

Have s HiViz Front sight on the way..should help as that Black stock sight is a little tough ..

They are nice guns. I love mine. I too put on a Hiviz front sight and think it was a great addition and easy to put on. Good luck with it!

I really like my 3" GP100, it actually has a very good DA trigger.

I love my 66 and 686......but I love my GP100 too! I would be hard pressed to pick just one! Lot's of folks think they can only love one brand of gun, when God was passing out that impulse, thankfully, he passed over me!

I wish they made the GP100 with the standard shroud instead of the full lug. I know about the Match Champion, but a slab-sided barrel on a Ruger revolver is as much of an abomination as the barrels on most of the Performance Center guns built by S&W.

I like GP100's a little bit, last I checked I have about 15 of them:) In various "flavors", fixed sight, full lug, half lug, .357, .327, .38.........can't wait for the .22 to come out. They are the "set it and forget it" revolver, especially the stainless models. You load them, shoot them, clean them, that's it. They require 0 real maintenance, no retiming, strain screws mushrooming, yoke screws wearing out, etc. You just use them and they work. I know people who haven't taken them apart to clean in 20 years, some that hardly clean them, they will still work when needed.

They did indeed make them with a half lug barrel, like my .38 pictured above. I have identical GP's in stainless. Ruger used to make a 6" half lug with adjustable sights, I had one but it was a beater. I sold it off and need to find another one. I don't know why they never made a 4" half lug with target sights (besides the Match Champion).
My 6" half lug GP was perfect with compact Letts on it, it was just abused by a past owner. Would like to find one in stainless.

The GP-100 is a splendid revolver. I'm very fond of it.

One could do worse than having a three-inch barreled SP-101 .357 for a small gun and a four inch GP for his std. service type gun.

I've had a few too. Only left with a 4" Police Service Six and I love it. I once had a security company trade in GP100. Got it for $299. Looked brand new. Miss that gun.

But I won't buy a new one. Those Hogue grips are an abomination, especially on the 3" version. They should never have stopped with the old Letts grips. The Wiley Clap version still uses them, so why can't the regular GP?

Lett went out of business. I think those on the Wiley Clapp spcl. editions come from Altamont, although they're closely styled after the Lett grip. I think Altamont sells those to private customers as well as to Ruger.

I put Pachmayr Grippers on mine after trying several other options and love them. Unlike some, the Grippers fit my frame well. But my GP is the stainless full-lug model with adj. sights and four-inch bbl. If I had a fixed sight three-inch, I'd look for the smaller Lett grip on the used market.

I bought my first GP100 about 6 weeks ago. It's a basic 4" stainless. The first thing I did was to replace the Hogues with some used Letts that a LGS had for $20. Now it feels and looks like I think a GP should.

It an accurate gun. Mine has a little bit of creep in the SA trigger, but that seems to be working itself out with use.

I have the same one in .327 mag. I LOVE it. I could probably sell it and make back double what I paid or more (they amount they sell for is ridiculous) but I doubt I'll ever get rid of it. I used to have a 3" security six, but I sold it because I didn't think I liked it enough. Translation: "I was a dumbarse."

Ruger makes fine revolvers. They are innovation in design and very durable and are reasonably priced. I have never had anything made by Ruger that wasn't satisfactory and my experiences with customer service have all been excellent. My first revolver was a stainless Security Six that I bought in 1977. I still have it and its fired thousands of rounds with no discernible wear. I currently have a New Vaquero and a Redhawk and a 77/44...That looks like a great outfit you have there. Congratulations on getting a fine revolver.

Well then, Ruger should contract with Altamont for the grips for new GP's, cause when you factor in the purchase of new grips (and Lett grips for the 3" GP are going for over 200 bucks IF you can find them), the GP is not such a great deal. Approaching 686 prices.

And as bad as the Hogue grips look on the 4", they are completely disproportionate on the 3" GP that I would like to have. Just WAY too big for that revolver.

I miss my 4" GP. Love my Service Six though. Every time I feel the urge to buy a new gun, I'm leaning more towards revolvers. No magazines to buy. I have tons of speedloaders and holsters. I reload now so no chasing or losing brass.
