Fell in Love with the Shield

The Shield I found was only $450, also. I lucked out after all the price hiking I have seen. I had to do some serious driving to get it. 2 1/2 hours worth. I am sure it was well worth it. :) I love the trigger. After I do a polish job, I'm sure it'll be butter. I have an Apex trigger on the way as I am still a fan of the Glock-style trigger, eventhough Glocks aren't my cup of tea. I only got the Poly version. ($39) I did not get the sear, striker block and all that jazz. I am pretty happy with how the trigger feels, stock. (I know... I say that now...LOL)

YUK! Bass ackwards, IMO. I very pleased w/Apex DCAK but left the M&P stock trigger alone.

I will say you paid fair market value, or at least MSRP. Mine was $449, as well. The LGS was about a 20min drive.

If you want to sell the Nano let me know! I got a Shield the first week they came out. I went looking for a Glock but the Shield felt so much better. Since they first came out my LGS got maybe 5 or 6 and I have 1 so I am lucky.

Mine is Apex corrected, because of the trigger pull requirements here. I have a full M&P collection of 9mm and the Shield is my EDC.

Best option out there, for all things to consider in an EDC IMHO.

Enjoy it!!

Need Help.... As this is new to me i wasn't sure if this was normal for this gun or a defect.. Problem: My slide lock won't automatically disengage. Makes no difference if there is a loaded, unloaded or no mag at all in the well. I have to manually press the slide release for it to return... How can I fix this??? As I stated before this gun is brand spanking new with only 50 rounds put threw it......

Two Shields

I'm curious as to why you own two Shield9's? I can see owning one 9 & one 40.

Anyway, to each his own.

I have wanted a Shield 9mm for months now and as of Friday I now own two 9's. I had been on a list for what seemed like ever at my favorite LGS and some online stores. I got tired of waiting and called another small gun store here in Austin last week and low and behold they had just gotten one. I almost wrecked my car to get there (I think I have a problem) and buy it. Literally 12 hours later I get a call from my favorite LGS after months of waiting saying they had it in was I still interested. In the meantime my wife had picked up the shield I just bought and I could see that familiar glaze come over her eyes. I figured if I wanted to have one for myself I had better get the second one. Haven't had the pleasure of shooting either one yet but am chomping at the bit.

Understood. BTW, I purchased my Shield 40 at Guns Plus, Georgetown. Would you mind sharing the name of the LGS where you bought the Shield? I've been to every LGS in & around Austin.

Oh yea, we are addicts, addicts of the gun.

Just came back from a local gun show, & everyone had the Shield 40. One guy who also has a LGS had multiple Shield 40's & 9mm's. $449 each. They are easy to get here in South Florida. GARY

M&P fan all the way, I have many!!!

I will start my own thread on this but i wanted to reply here as well to see what replies i get for this. I picked up my Shield Friday and Range trip was today. Like i said in my title i am a HUGE M&P fan and all mine work flawlessly so this is why i am miffed. I shot 250rnds at the range today out of my shield and had 3 "Failure To Extract" Stoppages. Granted, it was fresh out of the box still oily with that "New Gun Smell" :D This in no way makes me feel any different about the Shield, I love it, love it, love it... Any input is appreciated and welcomed. Thanks guys and a new thread will be started.

I truly feel that it just simply needed to be cleaned and re-lubed. I remember that after picking up my Shield 40 I was not able to go to the range straight after cuz I had to go to work but remember the next day when doing the first clean, how sticky the factory lube was. I think it's there just for shipping not firing. Clean it, lube it, shoot it and I have a strong feeling you will be just as pleased as I was. Good luck!!

+1 Always clean and re-lube.

Addicts indeed....I had also made the rounds and called every LGS frequently to bug them. I found the first one at Gun Tex and am sad to say I broke down and paid more than retail (about $100 more). I hated doing that but the anticipation got to me. After getting the call from McBride's the NEXT DAY (where I loiter frequently) I thought of how if you want it to rain just wash your car. McBride's sold the second one for the respectable price of $435.

Interesting side note: The second shield I found had to immediately go back to S&W for repair. I noticed that the slide would not budge while holding the trigger down to check trigger reset. Not stiff but totally locked in place. I paid for the gun knowing that it could be resolved and I would ultimately end up with a fine firearm and left it there to be sent off to S&W. Shield 1 shoots like a dream - Shield 2....we'll see.

Cheers!

Bought a Shield on 40 for myself for Fathers Day, put 100 rounds through it today with no failures:), I really like it it does not kick nearly as my LCR in 38+p, It will be my everyday carry piece as soon as I get a holster for it.

Bought my .40 Shield sometime last year. Lots of rounds through it of all kinds without a failure, just pull the trigger and bang.Surprising accuracy at 7 to 12 feet. I use paper plates. At those distances, I rarely miss the plate. 70-80% of the rounds are in the 2-1/2" circle I draw in the middle of the plate. I have cataracts and prisms in my lense, so I feel good about the shield and my ability at close range to use it.
