I am a big fan of the Model 10, and I'm especially fond of the snubnose K-frames. To me, the Model 64 (stainless) 6-shot .38 Special snubnose is the right balance of being a "carryable" gun but also a fun shooter.

For whatever reason, I've found the Model 64 snubbies to be hard to come by. Well, today, after stopping by the local pumpkin patch with the family, we dropped into one of the nearby gun stores and there it was: a 2" Model 64 'no-dash', RB, in very, very nice condition, with original Magna grips. Price was marked $515 or $575 (depending on who you asked, ahem). The gun doesn't appear to have been carried or shot much. Lockup was excellent.

Anyway, I let the family know I would be a few minutes and completed the deal.

Serial number is 1D4xxx, placing it in 1976 according to the SCSW. (This conflicts a little bit with the information from the M64 section, which says the M64 was made until 1972 IIRC).

Anyway - will post pictures in 10 days. I've been looking for this one for a while.

cheers,
--Neill

Congratulations on the purchase -- finding a gun you've wanted and searched for is a great feeling.

A well-preserved Model 64 (in all it's configurations) is a joy to shoot, and I agree the snubby K-frame balances beautifully, is easy to shoot and to conceal -- a can't go wrong gun.

Enjoy. :)

Great find! Those aren't easy to find in good shape.

I'm going to be nosey. What was the final price? I've been looking at one near me that I feel is over priced.

Great gun, I carried one as my dept. issue until we switched to the semi-autos.

$647 (575 + 47 tax + 25 DROS fee).

I said "I'll take it" thinking the the gun was $515 (so OTD would have been $582).

As these things go, I didn't have time to press the issue and will discuss it with the store manager when I pick it up in 10 days.

My LGS has one I've been looking at and they're asking $595. I think that's too much, but they don't want to dicker, even though they've had it for quite a while.

Congrats on the new snub K-frame.
I just picked up a pre-10 M&P 2 inch
and it is the cats meow.
Be sure to tell us how it shoots for you.

What's frustrating is that they are hard to come by! I think I've seen...4 or 5? In a decade of looking.

I would love to get one but as they are no longer on the approved safe gun roster no dealer in state can sell one and trying to find a private party transfer is not happening. There are many good things about living in California but the insane gun laws are not one of them.

Very nice find. Hard to tell if it is the camera angle but is that a satin / bead blast finish? I'm jealous.

Me too, it's a 64-3 though, not pinned. They want $575, which is way too much if you ask me.

l picked a 64 snub in Sept. The whole pkg. Box,brochures, unopened cleaning kit. NIB. Just have not had the chance to shoot it

I found a 64 no- in July this year and really carries and shoots good. Put some Pacs on it and polished it up really nice. Shoots 3 inches at 15 yards for me have to try some different loads. What kind of holster are you going to use?
I got a much better deal though, $347 otd. I feel I did real good.

Congrats. I was lucky enough to recently purchase a M64-2 2", pinned barrel, with original stocks, box and cleaning kit for $400 (originally $450). $447 OTD. I think I walked in just prior to the shop closing. Looks gently used. Serial places it around '77-'79. Can't wait to pick it up, but it might be a month or two. MSP is soooo far behind on paperwork processing right now!

they are one of my favorites, i have two of them. one is the stamped california department of corrections (C.D.C.) guns which floated around a few years ago and the other is a regular non stamped gun.....both are great and how could you go wrong with a 2" K frame rb anyway?

i didnt know they commanded such a price now though.

I picked up a 64-4 2" via auction for $516 + the usual fees a few days ago. A few minor scratches but nothing I can't handle with Mother's. I've been looking for a 2" to go with my 3 and 4"-ers.
Incidentally, SCSW, in the product codes list, says the retail for a 2" 64 in 2001 was $511.
