I've been looking for a very long time for one of these. Found a shooter for $450.
Why are these so hard to find?
Would like a clean one to add to the collection.

I don't think they were very popular. I saw a couple of them (back in the early 70's) sit on the shelves for a long time. Mine is in pretty nice shape. Handy little revolvers...

I've been carrying one around for over 35 years. Great field gun.

Carried, more than shot, but it's accounted for its share of pesky varmints, copperheads, and the like.

Looking for one like yours Jerry.
I don't like the looks of the new lightweight Kit Guns. Want to save as much weight as possible for those long hikes while hunting.
Almost bought a 4 inch Model 60 with adjustable sights. Their alot lighter than the 34 or 63.
By the way. Your 43 made me turn green with envy.

Steve

Good for you in finding one. Here in NY they seem very hard to locate. J in SC - that's a beauty.

My sister's SO found one in Denver a few years ago - factory nickel. When I saw it in the case I thought it was a 34 - til I picked it up.

Good going!

Regards,

Dyson

Steve and all....I had a terrible time finding a 43 before posting a WTB ad in the forum classifieds. I lucked out on this one, didn't pay a premium price for it.

It's accurate although a little tough to shoot well

Jerry, California decided to protect us from bad handguns and only allows State approved handguns to be imported into the State.
So most nice collectables will be at a premium price. Since the only ones available are what is already in State.
Maybe with the recession I'll be able to find a nice 52 or a 1940 Target at a reasonable price.

Bolo, Congratulations on your find and welcome aboard. Here's mine that I picked up on a trade deal this past fall. I would still like to find a carry/shooter version sometime. You got a beauty there Jerry. Merry Christmas All! Greg

Good find Bolo. I got a pre 34 yesterday - picture posted in other threads, for $500. I think we did ok. Looking forward to shooting it.

Have fun.

Yours makes mine look like it's been dragged behind a truck on a chain. Oh yeah, that's one of the reasons they weren't all that popolar, the finish is fragile compared to a standrd blued gun and they wear quite rapidly if carried a lot. The finish on the cylinder wears away real fast if shot a lot. Mine has been carreid a lot and shot a great deal. It looks like a boat anchor.

I'd refinish it but then I'd have to quit carrying it, otherwise it'll just end up looking the same, again.

I got mine so I'd have a "set" 34, 43,and 51. Found I actualy carried the 43 a lot.

The best holster I've found to protect a Model 43 is the one David Newcomb makes...everything else really wears the finish. I don't think the older finish is as delicate as the 317 polymer coating. I didn't buy mine for the next guy to enjoy

Greg, that is a super nice one. Mine had a slight touch of surface rust on the sight blade (can see a little of it in the photo), otherwise I don't think it had been shot much if at all. The stocks are numbered to the gun and I think it's around a 1970 vintage. I carry it much more than I shoot it, it's not what I consider a plinker. I don't have the box or paperwork, so decided to keep it as a shooter. Great to carry on a stream or as a trail gun.

Nice, I love the looks of the 43. My father had one when I was a kid but it was nickle plated--maybe not the same number designation, but it looked the same. I have regreted him selling that gun so many times.

I think the finish was a reason they weren't popular also. I had one years ago, the finish on the cylinder was worn off while the blue on the barrel looked pretty good yet.
It shot well though.
If they had some of the finishes that they have today back then it could have been done in a dark finish that would have been much more durable.
